I held my hand out proudly, my diploma to receive; My high school days were finished, ‘twas so hard to believe. And then I went to college, the days were hard and long, But soon I graduated with another happy throng. I went through further study, for God chose my career To be His special servant and preach His word so clear. As a pastor I learned lessons of His love and His care And oh, the many lessons I learned from answered prayer! But time flew by so quickly, and age then took its toll, My mind began to weaken and soon lost all control. Those days were long and lonely, my memory was all gone, And friends began to pray that I soon would travel on. Well, now I’ve graduated to heaven’s peaceful shore Where schools and time of learning I will need never more. My cap’s a crown of jewels, my robe’s a righteous white, I see the land of heaven, so shiny and so bright. I’m waiting now with others to join me in this land And for that happy moment when all of us shall stand And hear our names each mentioned and pass before our King To hear Him say, “Well done, child,” and with the saints all sing. Of all the times of triumph in schools on earth’s clay, There’s nothing like this platform on which I stand today. I can’t find words to tell you how thrilled I am just now To see my blessed Saviour and to Him humbly bow. But if you’d come and join me, then enroll this very day; Trust Jesus as your Saviour and follow in His way. Let Him be Lord and Master, forsake all sin and say, “By grace I’m going to be there on my graduation day!”
