Melancholy
In my darkest hours I think I can hear your heartbeat Taunting me from your resting place, But lulling me into a deep, sweet sleep As a peaceful wave of oblivion washes away my nightmares And restores my dreams of you. In my quietest minutes, I think I can hear your laugh Ringing in the air As potent as a bell. It floats into my ears and into my chest and into my heart; Lifting my chin and flooding my destitute soul with joy. In my most creative moments I think I can feel you next to me- Your breath on my shoulder As you peek at my work, Whispering encouragement And planting a warm kiss on the side of my neck, While resting a cup of tea that was always too sweet beside me. You will never leave me, For I think of you as often as I draw breath. You are in the walls of this house; The walls of my heart. You are imprinted into every aspect of me And though I weep for what was, I will be grateful that you were here, And that you loved me for a little while, Even if you love her more.
