Leaving Nigeria
Before 1650, they have anchored already, The Blacks at first felt their arrival was for a remedy, They were Europeans, concerned with slave trade, From the sea, they threaded through a glade. Our brothers and sisters were capture and sold, Great souls that money cannot buy even if we sell our family gold, Pulled unto the vessel with chains on their hands, legs and neck, They were piled up like stock fishes in the ship’s upper and lower deck. Yearning for freedom but they won’t see their families again, You can imagine the depressions, fears, agonies and pain, On the body of waters, they sailed through a dark and cold night, The extreme hunger, atrocious conditions is full of fright. In the middle of the sea, a slave said “I miss my children and my wife” He wondered what has happened to his once happy life.
