No-one stares at the hands of time more than once, And lives to tell the tale. I saw a reflection in the mirror But the face looking back wasn’t mine. I tried to search for the answer But it was another place and another time. There are too many holes in my memory Like Swiss cheese melting in the midday sun. My life is forever spiralling out of control Like a tangled piece of string. You can find one end opening up to you The other closed like a coiled spring. I found myself at the crossroads Looking for a path that no one has been before. I’ve collected footsteps before dawn And searched for a million rainbow ends. I’ve danced in the rain with strangers Laughing at nothing funny at all. Realised that even lonely people are never alone Is it our destiny to rise and fall?
