As I pick up the paper to write down my thoughts, My mind goes rushing back to the life I’ve led and the battles I’ve fought. Of all the pain and hurt I’ve inflicted on others I see so clear, How my arrogance has hurt the ones I held so dear. Looking back on these things I feel so sad, This person I was was pure evil and bad. The center of attention at no matter the cost, And looking back I see my actions and the friends I have lost. Being young was no excuse for I was raised better than that, I was the one to blame, I placed on that hat. I figured I was in control, life was made just for me, But I was blind, I wouldn’t open my eyes so that I could see. Many prayers were answered one day, not long ago, I met a man called Jesus, my Savior, don’t you know! My life took on a different meaning and nothing is quite the same, And He doesn’t make you feel guilty, he cleanses you and removes all the shame. I still have problems every now and then, but they don’t get me down, When I picture Jesus nailed to the cross, and on His precious head was placed that thorny crown. That’s when I think what this Man did for you and me, He suffered and died for our sins, and upon the cross He forgave us, that’s the part that got to me!
