My Mother's Song
My Mother’s Song She would sing to me the times that I cried, She would hold me til my eyes were dry. Simple words meant to soothe and succor, Words so sweet, sang by my mother. “Hush my child, don’t you cry. I will care for you til tomorrow’s nigh. Let your problems flow from you to me. Relax, feel them go, feel them flee. All will be well, everything’s alright. I have them now, they are gone in the night. They can’t return, no longer a concern, Banished now, never to return. I have you my child, I love you so, I’ll love you forever, that you know. Sleep my son, no need to weep.” My eyes drifted closed as I fell deep asleep.” Those simple words took away my fears, I knew I was safe when she was near. No matter what my troubles were, I knew I could always count on her. Throughout my life I remembered that verse, They carried me through when times were adverse. Softly I’d sing, my mind drifting away, Remembering my youth, those precious days. Time has flown, now I care for her. She’s old, infirm, most things are a blur. I hold her close, whisper soft in her ear, She hears my voice, and knows I am near. “Hush my child, don’t you cry. I will care for you til tomorrow’s nigh. Let your problems flow from you to me. Relax, feel them go, feel them flee. All will be well, everything’s alright. I have them now, they are gone in the night.” They can’t return, no longer a concern, Banished now, never to return. I have you child, I love you so, I’ll love you forever, that you know. Sleep my mother, no need to weep.” Her eyes drifted closed as she fell deep asleep. Jim Dorrell 9/2/17
