Chapter Europa
The mission took off as planned. No hitches, no great fanfare. No mechanical issues and the control crew were all silent in relative boredom. It was 3 pm on Earth and they had been out of communication with any satellites for about 2 days now. Everything was silent and the astonished Captain sat with her chin on her hand, her elbow resting on the edge of her armchair staring out at what amounted to be vast darkness. Earth had a second moon currently and it was temporarily circling, locked into Earth’s gravitation. It had been a unique experience all 2024 where space and the stars were concerned. January’s five comets that started it off were amazing as they jetted past Earth. I had dreamed long ago of these events that were to transpire this year. The Great Eclipse bringing the birth of my first grandchild. The year drifted past and by May I was making plans for the mission. I left to establish new residency in a well known location that could provide some much needed peace. The planets aligned and Ta Da it was a Super Harvest Moon, A comet not seen for 80,000 years appeared beside. But one comet was not so lucky and crashed into the sun on its way back to outer space. It was called the Halloween Comet. The sun threw energy that caused a widespread view of the Northern Lights across the home continent. The spectacle it made was gorgeous. Last but not least the mission had taken off as planned with hardly any notice. So here we sat. Our mission was simple enough but encompasses 18 years. Europa, a moon of Jupiter had been found to hold primordial ooze that contained miracle of all miracles, life. It is covered in ice but in the event that the Earth’s core stops turning we will have found life exists in Our solar system. Roughly 6,000 years from now in the future is where that vision lies of a habitable classed planet. All parameters must be established with hardly any room for error. There were thousands of names attached on microchips of wanna be astronauts for the mission. Their names would be held for future generations when that vision of inhabiting Europa one day becomes a reality. I cannot imagine we all say. We were approaching the great belt that sits between Us and Jupiter. How amazing the planets sits in my mind with its permanence and extra moons. How gorgeous the stillness of the Ice and Ocean beneath must be. We will find out in eighteen years if my vision will come true. My soon to arrive second grandchild arriving in a few beautiful Autumn weeks. Spring and Fall, Violets and colored oak leaves. Children of my sunshine and roses. But on this mission I am on, in my mind’s eye, I am so 6,000 when I again see the ocean I floated upon beneath the massive city of steel built to withstand the cold temperatures. It is where we Earthlings reside in complete comfort. Pampered comfort even, with even some roads leading out of the city. We as humans cannot possibly leave behind the Classic cherry red American Automobile and of course it handles beautifully as it travels along that stretch of bay. The beach is thronged with youth and beauty and many thousand Earthlings reside here. Out past Europa, further in deep space, we will have built many more stations. Our discoveries abound but one truth never falters. The Lord is our shepherd and he is known to exist. All arguments deleted. The Lord Jesus has been made known. The prophesied signs known to all arrived all year in glorious spectacle in space. Christmas will be amazing this year and the birth of 2025 brings love. Armageddon came and went and we hardly noticed. We are in the 1,000 years of peace soon. The much dreaded event soon behind us. I could sit and ponder this all day but one of the ensigns just spilled hot coffee down the front of his uniform and was once again calling for my attention.
“Captain, may I have a brief moment to tidy up?”
“Of course, sorry for the delay in response.”
Life is so strange.
The End. Happy Halloween! ;)
Sincerely, Melissa Ann
