1856 Revisited parts one and two

It's been just over seven months since I fell off the roof I'd never believed in miracles, but they happen I'm proof Apart from a slight limp I was feeling quite well And that I'd suffered horrific injury you just couldn't tell. Life returned to normal, and my physio was pleased with me She said, "It can take years to recover from a brain injury But you've somehow managed to overcome all adversities I'm more than happy to discharge you and your doctor agrees. I'd also been placed under the care of a top psychiatrist And for some unknown reason I was kept on his list I didn't pay it much heed, but my wife thought it was strange I said jokingly "Maybe they don't want me to get out of range". But strange it certainly was when we got home about four Three men in dark suits were waiting at our front door "Can I help you? I said "And who is it you want to see? " One said "We're from the CIA paranormal section at Langley. I said" Well you'd better come in and tell me what this is all about" I thought this isn't going to end very well, of that I had no doubt They said that they'd like me to return, a man needs assassinating An evil individual called Jen An Salah who needs terminating. I couldn’t help but laugh and said "Well, who the hell is he?" John who seemed to be in charge explained it all to me "He is long believed to be the father of terrorism worldwide And because of his twisted ideology, thousands have died". "Just one big problem" I said, "I banged my head, and I fell I had a strange experience, was it a dream? no one can tell" John said "Your blood tests showed traces of the virus sera And could have only come from someone from the Victorian era". I said "Wow, you’ve certainly done your research on me And if you don't mind me saying this but it's all pure fantasy Another problem you might have overlooked that I can foresee Is how I could get back there and that's assuming I agree. John added "We can trick the frontal part of your brain Telling it that you've fallen from a height; you'd feel no pain A laser fires tiny electrodes and pulses in quick succession And for the good of mankind, I hope you undertake the mission. He added" We'll leave you now but please think it through Talk it through with your wife and decide if this mission you'll do" They left and I said to my wife “Let’s discuss what’s been said It seems like it's not just me that's had a knock to the head". I googled Jen An Salah and it was just as John had said That because of his twisted ideologies thousands were dead My wife looked at me and said "Pete, I won't tell you what to do But wherever decision you make then I'll fully support you". I lay in bed tossing and turning all throughout the night And thought Salah was garbage and to kill him would be right I'd been in the Afghanistan war, and I'd killed quite a few But assassinating someone to me was something quite new. I phoned John the next day and told him I'd made my decision And said " Yes, I'm in and more than ready for the mission " Okay " said John" Someone is on their way to pick you up But as I said yesterday, you'll be on your own without backup". I was taken to Langley and John was at the front waiting for me Then took me into a private room and told me all the history Salah had visited the England in 1856 and broke his leg in a fall And was taken for treatment in London at Saint Jude's hospital. "Wow" I said" That's where I worked on a Monday and Friday I noticed he had my psychiatrist's notes, so he knew what to say He said "You'll hear of his arrival, and you must see it through You won't be under any suspicion as everyone respects you. Then I said" If I fail and don't manage to get back home to my wife I want cast iron guarantee she'll be cared for the rest of her life" John said "I'll transfer a hundred thousand dollars into her account I'm sure you'll agree that it is a very comfortable amount". I said, "let's do this" John said "Okay if you'd like to follow me" And took me downstairs to what seemed a medical facility There were about five others in the room waiting for me to arrive I couldn't help but wonder if I'd get out of this experience alive. They started up a strange looking machine then helped me onto a bed Seconds later I was on the street where I'd been knocked on the head A crowd had now gathered around and helped me back up on my feet I heard someone say "It's that nice doctor who lives down the street. I thanked everyone and said "That I was now feeling okay" Two policemen had arrested the thief who'd tried to get away For some strange obscure reason, my mind was in split in two I was aware of my other life and what I'd come here to do. I knew where I lived and was curious to again meet my wife Also, my two daughters in this strange Victorian life I arrived home and my daughters were pleased to see me And they said they can't wait for bed so I could tell them a story. My wife gave me a hug and carried on reading the newspaper And said " I see that man Salah is here, he's a troublemaker They say he's here to spread some nasty lies and hate" I knew I had to put some plans in place that would seal his fate. My daughters got ready for bed, and I kissed them goodnight Told them a bedtime story and then I tucked them in tight I too was tired and told my wife that I was going to bed All I could think about was thousands of innocent people dead. The next day I was due for work at the hospital as it was a Friday Checked the admissions list for last night and the previous day Damn, I thought Salah's name wasn't on it, I just had to bide my time But what I was going to do was pale in comparison to his crime. I was just about to finish work when I heard some people arguing A man was being brought in on a stretcher and shouting He was of Middle Eastern appearance and had a long black beard He was quite small and yet this was the evil man that was feared. He was taken to a side room and his two bodyguards stood outside And I had to think of a valid excuse that would get me inside A doctor came to me and said the man just brought in has a break This was my chance to get near and one I certainly had to take. I said "I'll stay on and treat him and see what treatment he needs" Little did he know that soon he'd pay for his futuristic evil deeds I went to the chemist and got painkillers, needles, and arsenic poison If anyone saw me, I'd say it was for infection, that would be my reason. I arrived at his door and one of his mean looking bodyguards let me inside A nurse was with him, I told her I need to examine him and to wait outside I filled up the syringe with arsenic and injected him with a large lethal dose As I finished injecting him the door opened, and I thought damn, that was close. I told the nurse I'd given him strong painkillers and it would help ease his pain It seemed a heinous thing to do but all of humanity would gain I left quickly and headed for home, was tired and went upstairs to bed The next morning police knocked on my door to tell me he was dead. They took me to down to the police station and said that I'd been seen With a bottle of arsenic poison by a nurse who was sat behind a screen I couldn't really explain to them why I’d done it they'd think I was mad But if they knew that I'd saved thousands of lives they would be glad. They told me I'd be charged with murder and would die at the end of a rope I had no regrets as to what I had done but I knew I’d given humanity hope It was now getting quite late, so I settled down on the bunk for the night Then I heard voices and then a bright light and someone say, "He’s alright". I was now back in the medical facility and John walked over to me " I said The deed It's now done; I think I've rewritten a page in history" I asked him how long I'd been gone, and he said " Nearly a year" He added "The machine malfunctioned and you’re lucky to be here.
