The Next One Hundred Years
~Worked the mines like the men that came before me, took the job from a man who went away to war. Over time this desperate place would prove to be a place from hell that was not worth fighting for. Black lung took my father and his brother, and it seemed that was the way it had to be, but I did not want that dust to take another. so, I found a way to make sure we got free. You must face fear down if you ever want to know some other place that will dry up all those tears, so, I promise you I’ll be a man you can love. and I’ll set my sights on the next one hundred years. ~So, we left our home in the hills of West Virginia, found a place near a mill in a Carolina town. There are oh, so many things I want to give you If we make our way and this world don’t come unwound. You were seventeen when you said you’d have my baby, so, we married young, and we left that world of tears. High or low are not the only roads to maybe when you’re at a crossroads of all your fears. You must face fear down if you ever want to know some other place that will dry up all your tears, so, I’ll promise you I‘ll be a man you can love, and I’ll set my sights on the next one hundred years, I’ll set my sights on the next one hundred years.... Lyrics by Mark Massey (me) The attached song/melody was AI Generated with help from my granddaughter, Brooke.
