Souls are Worth What You'd Sell for
My first enemy was one I should have loved He claimed that he loved me but I suppose not enough He carved the gaps in all my memories And deprived me of what made me A child at twelve and adult at thirteen I was fourteen when I first wrote to law And my tear-stained pages yielded the Nakita Clause Marked by tiny fingerprints and not-there cold paws Grieving that I had been unable to bury what I'd lost No, she was not lost but taken And not even biting dogs deserve To have the teeth pulled from their skulls And tossed upon the curb But in that we are alike Both strays at heart And severed teeth still have a bite when in another's maw I wrote my pup's legacy and found my own along the way Spite was my motivator to wake up every day I had to one-up him constantly, my feats all on display My sole purpose was reminding him What he'd give to be me for a day My enemy only had one eye The consequence of being so full of [redacted] That you're rotting from inside And so I dreamed of making one That would cure what makes him blind All so I could patent it and watch his one eye cry But soon enough the rot did spread Pancreas, kidneys, arms, and legs Each rotted away and yet I was comforted Because though he was a liar I'd hoped that it was true when he said "to all kinds of anesthesia, I am immune" Even if he lied, the rot still must have hurt But I have no sympathy for what barking dogs deserve No one will remember him for what he could have been He died bitter and alone his potential long past spent And yet I was left just so No more fueled by competition I found myself alone Vowing to never hate again Because if there's one thing in which that mutt excelled It was earning more hatred than the worst sadist in Hell I have outlived my enemy And alas can die in peace For once I look on my past fondly Laughing I recall attempts to speed this day along I once snuck a knife past an oblivious mom Though not as much as I thought, as it would happen For she called out "karma will kill him Far more painfully than you can" She proved to be quite right I can only hope I got my brains from her But to make up for my other half I vow also to do what I can for this world And on that note I'm proud to announce A legacy that will outlive me Alongside that of my beloved curr Chlorella, taxiformis, salicornia Simple marine plants that Devour methane, brine, and carbon A simple little trick to put an end to global warming So please remember these When once more I join my enemy
