Heaven's Welcome Mat
HEAVEN’S WELCOME MAT Heaven’s welcome mat has been spread out again, And countless happy souls are welcoming him in. We miss his friendship here, his witty, smiling face, And yet we know he’s gone to a much better place. Though the time was very brief that I had known this man, There’s no doubt in my mind that God was in his plans. He seemed so full of faith as he faced the unknown Because he knew that he would never be alone. His wife of many years close by him ever stayed, And I watched them as they cried, I saw the way they prayed. “Whatever God should want, we’ll let Him have His way,” Were words they said and meant as they face that surgery day. And though their true desire seemed not to be fulfilled, That he could die at home, if that would be God’s will, I’m sure God’s way was best, for as he lay alone, God laid his welcome mat there at his heavenly home And spread His arms out wide to one more there embrace, And now he’s whole and smiles as He sees His Saviour’s face. His life speaks on to us who must live our lives still And challenges us to seek and ever do God’s will So when our brief life’s through and we death’s valley trod, We can walk through in faith and trusting in our God. For if we live by faith, we can, like him, know that When we walk out life’s last door, we’ll see heaven’s welcome mat.
