Tree of Deceit
Let the hollow tree be void It’s sap is sour not sweet Dripping with empty words It’s roots are broken ready to fall It’s fruit with beauty has a taste of bitterness Branches so weak the fruit falls to the ground The bark so thin unable to stand upon it’s own With rings of age deceiving all Sucking the water from other trees around Draining them of life leaving them to die Burning from the outside while the inside Is cold and dark untouched by the flames of fire Woodpeckers pecking for bugs to eat Warning other trees to stay away For these bugs have devoured it’s heart Rendering it useless with rotten wood Leaves without color crashing to the ground Never gently floating with a light breeze Mingling among others so as not to be seen Deceitful and deceiving are these hollow trees
