If You Only Knew

Listen to poem:
If only you knew Poetry Contest Sponsored by: Silent One Rumi Quote: “If only you knew what bliss I find in being nothing.”
1st place contest winner ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
How did our love disappear? bewildered, akin to an eerie shear. where our wishes wane seeming truly suitable, In your stead. I reached a radical height. How did our love fade? If you'd known, I'm dangling, fragile, and taut. We'll weave a worn web for you. If you'd known, a heart oblation, openly prone. Before you leave me, I cling to the letters you ebbed, I vow what life has taught me. You preach grief and suicide! A gloomy aura surrounds you. But I believe there is hope. A light will guide you through. find assistance and support. You are not alone. Let's descry and embrace together. It's a path you can call your own. yet it crushes my spirit. If you had, but knew. Your speech is a compelling dance. holding me riveted and on threshold. I strive to convey your delight. In whispers, our concepts merge. making me stumble and fall, We have a sturdy friendship bond.   If you had the slightest clue, You ooze exceptional appeal. a precious gem, so rare and fair Seeing you makes me ecstatic. In you, my muse, I find my dignity. Your proximity makes me feel snug. the master of wisdom, In shards, my heart breaks. You put it back in tandem. Halting my fall. If you'd known By my side, you're not here. A restless dance is my heart's plea. Should I cease drowning tonight? Revive me from this slumber. exhale your breath into me, You are the sole focus. of my unwavering faith, If you had, but knew. In a sphere where bluebirds sing,  Butterflies dance on a halcyon breeze. Softly swaying, as summer grass. by stream edge, where water flows A single step leads; beyond one follows. upon a well-worn trail of love's desires The willows bend and whisper low.  as hearts flutter and freely bestow. Elysian laughter resounded. above the cliffs of limestone and tiny pines giggled in reply. Such a sight they'd never beheld! We've strolled this path countless times. where the first dandelions sprout while deer were observed as bystanders. as if kissing our alibis, snowflakes, In a state of fledgling desire, Our souls lit up with fervent fire. He felt as free as the soaring skies. We nourished them, you and I. If you only knew...

SP, congrats on the win, and a very interesting take on the theme. When we can't get reciprocation in our feelings of love and attraction, it's painful. I can feel the pain and it hurts for sure. This sort of intensity can stay with us for a very long time. Your musical selection certainly expresses the distress.

An epic poem, dear Sotto, although you labelled it as free verse, there is a rhyme pattern and the latter part of it really won me over... so much wonderful imagery in this one.. Congratulations on your first place in the contest..

Ah dr sotto I think this is one of my most fave poems ever written by you! The seamless flow and effortless nature of your lines and how they were articulated with questions and emotions in the most poetic manner really stood out for me especially the opening lines were really good! I love also “ If you'd known By my side, you're not here. A restless dance is my heart's plea. Should I cease drowning tonight? Revive me from this slumber. exhale your breath into me, If you had, but knew.” So lyrical and so beautiful!! Im sure will be a top winner! Best wishes for the contest dr sotto

"Revive me from this slumber. exhale your breath into me, You are the sole focus. of my unwavering faith, If you had, but knew."..... I wonder if these words are addressed to your lady love or to your muse. However it is a passionate plea to once again begin anew and make a pilgrimage together. The last stanza is a celebration of life lived in love and the beauty and bliss of having rambled together through the highways and byways of life. The Refrain- "If you'd known" adds to the power and poignancy of the poem. An outstanding composition, dear Lasaad

Hi Sotto, I would hate you to think ill of me or ever think I could forget your charismatic poetry or your awesome comments. But I would not blame you! We have been under intense stress with business as we try to keep clients happy and have to sacrifice most of our time on them. This ardent love poem is beautiful, full of remarkable phrases. I applaud your so incredible emotive thread throughout your write and the repetition of the words 'If you only knew....' gives your romantic poem such depth. Blessings to you my friend, Jennifer.

I hear the turmoil of heartbreak, my friend--as tears are held in check--as two souls ache in unison. A wonderful weaving of emotions in this lovelorn dialogue reflecting on past and present in embrace of the beloved. --Our souls lit up with fervent fire---If you only knew...great ending lines.

Stunning creation, dear Sotto! I couldn't help but wonder if this poem was written about and for your muse? (If you had the slightest clue, You ooze exceptional appeal. a precious gem, so rare and fair Seeing you makes me ecstatic. In you, my muse, I find my dignity.) Your poem with its imagery and rhyme was a masterpiece and one that evoked numerous emotions. Best wishes with the contest, your poetess friend in Texas, Sara
