A Tree Like Me

A Tree Like Me This poem is in the CUBE16 form I created several years ago. I stand alone upon the plain all others gone just I remain I see the sky as clouds drift past the sun spreads warmth but will it last I've stood right here for fifty years no time before have I felt fears as darkness flows none else can see my loneliness a tree like me the men now come with blades of steel what will I hear what shall I feel this is my home through rain and snow what can I do where will I go as men begin I feel great fear when cutting starts the end draws near when people come they'll only see a furrowed land no tree like me

Great rhyming and cadence Robert. I sense a poignant and strong environmental eco message about the ignorance of man and the consequences of such. I related it too to the system that pays little respect and sympathy to those who are about to become homeless. Your poetic form lends itself very well giving the feeling of a natural flow to your body of work. Cheers - Gary

Yes, I remember reading your blog about it some time back. I enjoy writing in iambic tetrameter; one line of such can be 'cut' into two lines of dimeter so maybe I'll give it a go sometime. The nearest I have got to CUBE16 (I wasn't attempting it at the time) is "The Signal Box' at https://www.poetrysoup.com/poem/the_signal_box_1276271 - with a splitting up of the 8 line stanzas, some tidying up of syllables and the addition of full stops I would nearly be there. :) Cheers - Gary
