Honeys Adventures! Chapter Honey and The Great Smoky Mountains!

Well, hello everyone! Good to see you again my readers! I was just getting bored, so I am glad you came to visit! Have you had a nice few seasons? I have had an adventure! Would you like to hear about it?

In April 2024 my momma Melissa Ann, Shakespeare, and I had to move. We left my birthplace and hometown and traveled many hours by car. It was hot because the air conditioning did not work as well as we all would have liked. Momma drove the whole way until we came to a new place to sleep for the night. It was a motel next to the Gatlinburg, Tennessee Trail. We moved to a place where the mountains rose high above us, the sunsets were light and beautiful and there were plenty of places to go walkies. When mom came around to get me out of the car to go potty a big old bear showed up and ran us back into the car. We waited until her and her cub finished looking for dinner in the dumpster. It was a big black bear but soon they wandered off. The first few days were rough. Momma had us stay in the room a lot while she tried to get a new job to help pay the bills, its not like it was when I sat next to her at home as she types on her computer thing. She calls it writing. Anyway, as I was saying. It was rough. I was homesick and Shakespeare was too. He wasn’t feeling as well as usual and it took awhile to feel ok in our new room. Momma and I had a few fights when I refused to come back to the room after a long walk. I planted my feet and pulled backwards slowly until my collar came off completely. There was a man with a leaf blower making lots of noise as momma called me back over to her while I tried to hide. She put my collar back on, apologized to the nice man working there, and explained I am a country dog new to the small city. We went back to the room. Momma came in one day and said Good News! I have a new job! I didn’t like it much because quite honestly she left all the time and came back when it suited her and not me. My momma said I am very spoiled that way! So days passed and I stayed in the room mostly but Momma takes me out all the time, I make no messes and neither does Shakespeare. But I began to get very upset. This was boring! I wanted to go home! When she took me outside to go potty I waited. At first I acted all calm and then I started pulling on my collar and every time I saw a human I made a choking, gagging sound even when there was no pull at all. Momma did not find this funny at all. She again, took me back to the room and I was bored several more days, what Momma calls being grounded. Then it was the weekend and Momma’s hair was starting to look a bit pulled out so she asked me if I would like to go for a long walkies with her. It was Saturday in May. The weather was perfect. We started out walking. Now, I have learned manners are very important to humans. I must sit when told to. I must not try and get attention from every human I meet. Not all of them are nice. I must not talk with every dog I meet. Sometimes they bark at me for no reason or growl and I bark back but Momma frowns, she is not amused. So I was to be on my best behavior. We were hiking on the Sugarland Valley Trail in the Gatlinburg area of The Great Smoky Mountains. There was so much to see. Green stuff was everywhere! I saw tree rodents called Squirrels and I laid down just to watch them for awhile. Momma did not mind. We continued walking miles and miles through unsteady ground. Up and down the trail path went and every once in a while we would sit by the river. The rapids were swelled by the recent rains I had heard pattering on the roof above me. Momma let me go to the water to get something to drink but it looked like so much fun I jumped in without thinking. Splash! Went the water all around me! Then it pulled me backwards so very fast and I couldn’t catch on to the rocks with my paws. It scared me and I gulped the water a little. Momma pulled me back to the bank of the river and to the rocks very slowly till I was able to jump back to the shore. Rivers move very fast and everything is more slippery than you would ever imagine. I learned you should never just jump in because it will take you down stream much too quickly. It was scary but what an adventure to tell you about. I laid down in the creek bed a little farther upstream and it was much more fun to play in. The water is very cold here though sweeping down through the mountain passes. The flowers are vibrantly colored and the earth smells damp and strong. I wasn’t allowed to wander, and Momma let me dry off by running through a field of flowers and golden strands of grass. The waterfalls are beautiful and strong. There is so much to see and smell constantly. I am a dog who does not get as many treats as I would like but boy did Momma take me on a wonderful day out! We walked 3.8 Miles up the trail and back. I met so many new people and furfriends. Momma reminds me manners are very important and I need to remember them. I tried to bark at a couple of other dogs and tried once to pull Momma off the boulder she was sitting on. She was laying on her back and tugging on my leash for all she was worth but I just grinned at the funny picture she made trying to hold on to me backwards. After that Momma walked us back across the long wooden bridge to take me home. My fur was still a little wet from swimming in the river and Momma was limping a little too because of our long walk. We stayed out almost all day! I am a Kentucky dog, I must say, but Tennessee is very beautiful! Momma says we are going camping soon. I have to go now but I will be back soon to tell you more adventures! Goodbye!
