I know I'm late to this but here is an intriguing line:
you leave no room for me
It works as a parallel: literally, as someone takes up too much room on a couch, and figuratively, as an overwhelming companion.
Aloud, you can feel the iambs (de-DUM de-DUM de-DUM) and hear the assonances ("you" with "room", "no" with "for", "leave" with "me"), and m-repetition of "room for me".
In terms of sense, it isn't maudlin or overly self-absorbed.
More of this, please.

"Love At First Sight"
Susan Manley Posts: 3

I did not believe in love at first sight. I even wrote a poem about that. Its illogical right? Love is a sum of experiences with someone, its trust and bonding and attraction and connection built over time. However... Love at first sight happened to me at the age of 17 and he was 20 and we became engaged last year. ( and then I lost him in his sleep). He was 64. He and I did a deep dive through our many experiences together and shared our memories back and forth. And for him it was love at first sight too. We just simply could not get enough of each other. We wanted to stand next to each other, talk to each other. And we took every opportunity to touch, hold hands and eventually when we could be private, kiss, hug. And as I became an adult, more. And then he ran off scared to death because well... I was to smart, pretty and he thought I was destined for better things. We had many years and several marriages each apart. And did not see each other again until our 50s. And it was still the same. The connection was as strong as ever, but not direct enough to stay together. And last year I reconnected with him and he told me I saved his life. Because I gave him purpose again. Reality is he pulled me out of that funk too. Funny thing is I met someone this spring that makes me feel that way again. So ... don't give up on love. And yeah love can happen during the very first time you meet someone and it can be overwhelmingly strong. Love isn't rational. Though relationships are built on a foundation of rational. And some love does not last the test of time ( or the cold hard stare of logic).

The Boy of Art

Ken, they all say painters paint best When they're torn apart, Music sounds best When it hurts your heart, Love’s ONLY real When it crushes your soul, becomes a broken shard
So, is this why you left With a broken heart to make art? But, I'm not cutout for this, am I? Someone told me I am, ‘twas my heart,
I lost you even when You said I was your plan When I was just your fan
You – The boy of art, Taught me it all, Taught me to write, Rose me when I fall, Pushed me to speak, Pulled me, my walls To Bring my wretched heart The sky with shooting down waterfalls
But now I don't know Where are you? If may I meet you at all? How are you? If may I see you once and for all? Gone, are you? If may I feel you, your soul lashing gold? The boy of art, where are you?

Not poetry's place to determine what is or isn't. That's a misuse of the genre'. Poetry IS "the emotional content of literature." An exploration of our reaction to what is or isn't. The verb "to be" is, are, was, were shouldn't be utilized in poetry as it defeats poetry's purpose:
We WERE known for BEING feminine,
but femininity IS notBEING too sensitive.
IT’S a serious talk about facts, that all of us should think positive.
We always getbelittled, so woman should fight and BE active!
Wehave weaknesses, but can BE turned as our strengths to survive
ThereARE many things that we can do, even carrying a life
Sowhat ARE you going to do?
love the person for being thereason why YOU’RE alive
We AREN’Trecognized before a woman WHO’S strong and independent
Slave, naive, a coward and a trash, that IS how women being treated
Menare powerful.
They ARE physically strong and beingrecognized as brave, intelligent
and can do anything theywanted
But now we ARE equal, say yes, towomen empowerment!
Women had sacrificed many things eventheir wants and needs
But BEING silenced for having noright to speak
Is this how our society should BE?
Noequality? Pride and a man should lead?
WeARE essential, a woman should BE loved and protected
NotBEING raped, abused and molested.
Women's capabilities hasenhanced society's development
Here comes revolution ofwomen empowerment

Let'sBE fair and do not only rely on HIStory

Dreams, alter egos, my spiritual twin on the other side are all aids in writing poetry. I like to explore being young again. Sometimes I'm just being silly. Sometimes I'm really serious. Exploration of the mind, spirit, soul are keystrokes of the immortal poet's heartstrings. Nothing is out of bounds when it comes to the Art of Poetry! edited by artmeddler on 5/27/2024

Hello Soupsters! Finally, I'm making my first Forum posting. It took me foever to figure out how to do this. I'm such an ignoramus when it comes to new websites. Evabody seems to do things differently. Absolutely no consistency. So, who am I? I'm an alien inside an humanish body. I'm loving this poetry good kine stuff. My guess is ... that it's in my nature. I've had nothing but warm welcomes. Next will come my BIO, when I figure that out, I'll post it. I look forward to absorbing evabody's poems.

Hi,
I am new here and was wondering if we are allowed to post poems that contain topics such as self-harm and suicide as well as curse words? Some sights allow it, some don't so I just wanted to see if anyone could give me an answer, thanks

Nice to know the woman behind the poetry. Your poetry is great! I'm 65, living in a retirement community in the greater Los Angeles area, retired, but tutor math in Mathnasium a few days a week, just for fun. The retirement community has a creative writing club, where over the past year, I've gotten into poetry. My son is 32, living on the other coast.

I envy the poets
The ones who can disentangle the threads of their thoughts
And smoothen them out on paper
Each word, each letter, each curve of their quill laden with meaning, passion and emotion
These innocuous traces of ink
Do not mask the fervour in the minds of the poets
I balk at their audacity
And admire their ability
I wonder, do their words ever choke them, as mine do?
Has their voice ever been swallowed by fear?
Do their ink-stained hands ever shake and their eyes well up with ardour as they put pen to paper?
Meanwhile, I yearn for the identity of 'This Sublime Poet'
I ask myself: Am I a poet yet? Or simply a writer? Or am I just someone who uses words to emote?
Do my poems have an essence? A hidden interpretation derived by reading in between the lines? Or am I just one among countless others who hide behind the artificialities of language?
Do I possess any substance or do I lack it?
Am I the seed? Or the husk?
Or am I the fruit? Albeit the one that falls to the ground, wasted?

Oh, the beauty found in this tender race, When walls crumble, revealing its truest face, With all the wrinkles in its right place The raw, the fragile, and all the flaws we'll come to learn to love more.
But to crack the armor, to lay it bare, To let the world in, to show we care, We must surrender, trust and embrace, The vulnerability of our soul with grace.
For vulnerability is not a sign of weakness, But a testament of strength and meekness, Through where the light shines through, Revealing in its essence, the authentic you.
For when we open the chambers of our heart, When you allow it to play its part, We invite others to do the same, To share their stories without shame.
In vulnerability, there lies the power untold. To heal, to connect, to break through the mold, For it takes courage to be truly known, To let your heart's melody in the fold
So, let the tears flow, let the laughter ring, Let it be the song we sing, For in the depths of our soul, Lies the beauty of the unknown.
Pour your heart out, dear wanderer of life, Let vulnerability be your compass, your guide, For it is in sharing the depths of our soul, That we find connections that make us whole.
