I AM THE HOUSE MOUSE

Beneath old floorboards I reside,
from where I wander far and wide
I climb cavities in each wall
taking great care so I don’t fall.

The family here are Jack and Jill
and their baby by name of Bill.
There also is an old tomcat
called Felix and he’s really fat
so he can’t squeeze into my place.
But I can creep into his space.
When he’s asleep his tail I’ll bite
then quickly off and out of sight.
Tonight Felix is staying out
so in safety I roam about.

I see what Jill’s bought at the shop
and left out on the kitchen top.
As small mammal I feed and feed.
This is for need and not for greed.
My favourite is the loose wrapped bread
as from its crust the crumbs are shed.
I eat them and they are filling.
By accident I leave a dropping.

Now this may give my game away
when it’s found by Jill with dismay.
Suddenly she lets out a scream.
Methinks this is a bit extreme.
Seems she is shocked to see a turd.
Jack is outside; her scream he’s heard.
He comes and says “It is mouse poo.
Oh, darling dear what shall we do?”

He starts to set a trap for me
baited with bit of dried up Brie.
But I am wise and this will fail.
I am the mouse he’ll never nail.
I’ll wind him up, see what he’ll do
so I then leave a trail of poo.
Jack and Felix won’t catch this mouse.
I still reside in this old house.

Hey Tony, What a hilarious adventure into the secret life of a mischievous little mouse! How you describe this furry protagonist's antics and cunning strategies is entertaining and clever. I couldn't help but chuckle at the mouse's boldness and wit. Keep weaving your playful tales! - Blessings, My Friend, Daniel
