Elan World - part 5 of 8

by

We flew back to the clearing just a few before midnight.
I worried that the stress we'd faced had added to her plight.
This graceful child I'd met at dawn claimed to be my mother.
She told me she had risen - I wondered 'bout my father.

"Please, don't hold back, I need to know about my distant past.
You said you sent me to the earth to keep me from her grasp.
My father died not knowing that his cherished queen had turned.
So why did she reject the light and why was father spurned?"

"Dearest child, believe me when I say I did what's best.
As for the evil Duchess, well, let's let the matter rest.
Safe to say her motive in replacing me was hidden.
Your father needed someone and was by her beauty smitten.
I sent you on with heavy heart and placed you with a friend,
someone whom I trusted had agreed to lend a hand."

"I do remember living in a tiny little house.
I had a horse named Daisy and Fred was my pet mouse.
I can't recall my parents or just whether I was loved.
I do remember simple things like sunshine up above.
My mem'ries of my former life are still a little dim.
I sorely miss the farm and riding Daisy on a whim!"

"Beloved one, this earthly life I cannot comprehend,
I was resting in the grave and could not be your friend.
Someone brought me to this world to show you heaven's way.
What we saw while in the north, alas, what can I say?
We must seek help in freeing those poor souls from evil's grip.
I know a place where we can go to find help for our trip."

Off we soared although 'twas night, yet neither one was weary.
We flew 'til morn as starry skies lit up our pathway clearly.
We set down near a little town, so quiet and so calm.
I wondered if we'd find someone awake at crack of dawn.

It wasn't long before we heard the buzz of life begin.
Townsfolk selling vegetables on streets of sapphire gems.
Rainbow-tinted people and a sky of topaz blue.
We stood in awe as we took in this multi-colored view.

A gentle breeze then lifted us toward the town below.
The people froze right where they stood as they looked up in awe.
Apparently they'd never seen an Elanite with wings.
'Twas clear to me our venture here would teach them many things.

The leader of the town arrived and asked us to come with.
We headed toward the square of town, his pace was rather brisk.
As we sat down we saw his face had turned as white as snow.
The odd thing was his eyes were black and yet they had this glow.

He asked us what our business was, if we'd be leaving soon.
Allegedly our presence here was causing some to swoon.
We told him of our plight and asked him if we might impose.
We'd heard they were a cautious race, but what had we to lose?

He listened to our explanation then began to weep.
He'd never heard a tale so sad, his empathy was deep.
He promised help to free our friends, but wondered how they'd fly.
No one had ever flown before, no one dared even try.

With that my mother said a prayer and look, wings were given.
The people tried to ride the breeze with flights that were uneven.
We chuckled as we watched the fun and marveled at the sight.
Yes, all agreed the victory o'er hate would start this night!

I love the lines "As we sat down we saw his face had turned as white as snow, The odd thing was his eyes were black and yet they had this glow".. can't wait for the revolution!

There is so much more I could do with it sans the constraints of having to stick to a (self-imposed) rhyme scheme. Maybe one day I'll flesh out a full-fledged story

I wonder if the man with the black eyes is worth trusting....time will tell. I look forward to reading all 8 chapters and from what I've read so far, this is a story of exceptionally high quality and there is a message coming I am certain of that...LOVE IT. I will keep an eye out for the continuing story and the message as it unfolds. Beautiful story telling July.
