A Bittersweet Goodbye

by

My darling Chad,

Good morning, sleepyhead! I’ve been awake for a couple of hours and you’re still sawing logs. You always were a great sleeper. It gives me pleasure to watch you at rest. It also gives me a chance to finally do the right thing and fade out of your life for good. It was great being with you last night after your gig at the jazz event. Believe me, the pleasure was all mine. Who knew your sweet trumpet playing hid such a beautiful voice when we worked together at the LQ? You’re on your way to great things, my love. Nobody wants your success more than I. I’m going to watch your star rise higher and higher.

The thing is, I can’t see myself as a groupie. That existence is not for me and I think you know that. This is your time to shine. You’ll be travelling the world, meeting people and enjoying your celebrity, as you should. You need to be free to do whatever you wish, and you are. We had a beautiful thing and I will always cherish our time together, but it’s over. Funny how the person in a relationship who is giving more than 100% knows it, so I bow out.

Make no mistake, darling. This is the most difficult thing I’ve ever had to do but I know it is right. And I know you care for me. I’ll hold on to that thought through the years. There’s no way for you to contact me as I’ll be leaving town tonight. Just do me one favor. Save this letter someplace where it will be safe and if you should ever think of me, re-read it and realize what a favor I have done you. I hope your thoughts will always be good ones where I’m concerned. I do love you, Chad. You will always have a special place in my heart.

Years will fly by and if by chance the world should grow cold for you or you should wonder what it all means, there is one thing you need not be concerned about. You’ll never have to wonder if you were ever truly loved. You were. More than you’ll ever know. By me…but that’s my burden to bear.

I must end this quickly, love. I wouldn’t want you to waken to this sad situation so I’ll just sign off and slip out the door. Here’s to you and the magnificent future that awaits you. Tears are blinding me now but I must be silent. Goodbye my dear, sweet, darling man. To tomorrow and tomorrow….

For always,
T
