The Soldier

The dust has now settled, but the cries are raging on
The battle has now settled, but the war is raging on

We are still standing over this scorched land
While our souls are getting burnt
We are still marching over this dead land
While our hearts are dying at every turn

We can do nothing but our duty
Don’t expect from us to show pity
We are just heartless for the enemy
As we do, anything for the country

We are just soldiers
We don’t ask you to remember us
We are just saviors
We don’t expect you to remember us

I don't know if I'll see the one beside me
For us, death is a part of life
I don't know if the one who will be carried is me
For us, killing is a part of life

The bullets have now rained again
My friends have now fallen again
Have any of them asked for mercy?
No! They say everything for the country

This is a war and not some fairytale
You’ll get death when you fail
Should we make our face pale?
No! We will always be brave and hale

The dust has now settled, but the cries are raging on
The battle has now settled, but the war is raging on

I am now carrying my dear friends
Some breaths have now been lost
I am now praying for my dear friends
Some souls have now been lost

Should I shed tears on them?
Should I feel pity for them?

No! I can’t let their pride be defiled
I still remember their dying smiles
Their dying words make my heart heavy
Their words were EVERYTHING FOR THE COUNTRY

When we led our friend to his family
We say he’s now a martyr for the country
We heard a sudden cry, after a moment of silence
I can only let my head down, hearing them weep in silence

There is a sudden cry (scream) of a child from the door
He asked his mother, why the people are so more
When his sight fell at the coffin on the floor
Shame on me! As I couldn’t save him in war

The child caresses the coffin as his tears flow
He began to murmur something as the time flows
I can't help myself but know

What is the last thing he wants to say?
What is the last thing he wants to convey?
My head sprang up after hearing those words
My tears gushed after hearing those words
I heard from my ear, as my heart pounded heavily
The words echoed “EVERYTHING FOR THE COUNTRY.”

If poetry is "the emotional content of literature" as I believe, Silver Spark nails it on that front.
