I remember most of a poem I studied @ school & used in my Higher Grade English exam (a very long time ago). Recently tried to download it but can't find it anywhere. Thought it was by Vernon Scannell but all my searches of his poetry have not revealed it. It's called Jailbird and goes like this (with apologies if anything is missing, out of order or incomplete) "His plumage is dun, Talons long but blunt, He sleeps at night in a high nest built of brick & steel, His appetite is indiscriminate, He sings at night - a long song, sad & silent. He cannot fly"
