How do you properly set the pace of your poetry. Is there a set rule regarding spacing? Writing slower poems, can you just wack in an extra space and all is fine?

As I'm new here - I'm not certain; is it possible to preface your piece with an instruction as to how it is intended to be read? Perhaps we ought to introduce a glossary - as is the case with sheet music? No doubt the 'old heads' will come up with a jot of accepted wisdom
