Contest Description

Please consider poetry written in 2018 and select one of your personal-favorite, medium-length poems for a chance to win a pretty Tanzanite pendant.  Poets who won prizes in my previous contests are welcome to enter.

1) I would prefer poems be 12-20 lines in length.

2) Any theme is welcome.

3) Make sure your entry has proper spelling and grammar.

4) There’s no need to put a date, contest name or sponsor on the bottom of your poem.

5) I will be judging blindly, so be sure your name is not on the poem.

6) Any free verse or rhyme form is acceptable.  (I am not fond of forms that repeat lines.)

I expect to have lots of winners, but will try to limit first place to one entry.  You may write a new poem for this contest, but it is not necessary and will have no influence in the judging process.

If your poem contains British spellings, please let me know so I can be sure not to view them as misspellings.

When the contest is judged, I will need an address for the first place winner so I may mail the prize first-class as quickly as possible.  The UK’s custom authorities occasionally impose random fees on gifts, so keep that in mind.  I have not heard of this happening in any other countries.

The Tanzanite gemstone was discovered in Northern Tanzania in 1967 and  is only found in a very small mining area (approximately 7 km (4.3 miles) long and 2 km (1.2 miles) wide) near the Mirerani Hills. Its color ranges from lavender to blue.  The Tanzanian government recently imposed restrictions on the exporting of Tanzanite, so the value of this gemstone is increasing.  Below is an example of Tanzanite.
