Leighann, write for you and don't worry about the reader. Your poetry will speak for itself. You are obviously very talented.

I had 4 years of Latin in high school and our Churches in Italy are all in Latin for services .. subtitles may be the way to go Leighann ..

Hi Leighann, I am the minority here. As a science-driven person and an old Latin student, I personally enjoy seeing the left and right sides of the brain creating a masterful scientific poem. Like the gals below mentioned, your audience is the key. Poetry soup is probably not the best venue for this type of work, but I know there has to be a strong audience somewhere. perhaps ask one of your professors at school or contact another author that supports this said publication. I think mixing Latin with poetry is a grand idea. I woud also be interested in reading any poetry you've written about your martial arts love! GWendolen

Leighann, I think what Iolanda told you is good advice. also, always consider the source. Rhyming poets prefer to read rhymes. Free verse poets typically prefer other free verse to read. some, like me, enjoy both , but the topic has to be of a certain type (romantic or dramatic, etc) I have no interest in sciences and so such a poem along with latin would not be something I'd read. I would love to see a poem about YOU and your experiences. I will take a quick look and see if you have such a poem. LUv, andrea

Hi I have had a look through some of your work and , (this is my opinion only), I am not a fan of free verse and I have said this before, but I think you are correctin the fact that Latin titles can be a bit off putting. Free verse to me is the telling of a story that could be an essay and I know I will tread on lots of toes, some works I have read are stunnig in their beauty and imagintion but to me they are not poetry I would rather read it in a story. You have lots to say but mainly free verse so to me I would look at them after I have run out of others to look at. Please do not take this to mean I don;t like your work,it is just not my first choice to read. I am no judge of what is accepeted I can only judge on whatI like.

It depends whom you write for, who are your prospective readers. Everyday folk might not understand the Latin terminology. For some of us it is easy to comprehend "Memento Mori" or "Carpe Diem" but many people don't understand and don't care for Latin... My suggestion is to make your poetry accesible to the average people too...so they can get it and value it.
