Ariana Pataki Biography

Hi!

My name is Ariana Pataki, and. I'm from Spain, from a beautiful city called Zaragoza. English is not my first language. I apologize for any mistakes my grammar may have. My parents are from Hungary and Romania, so I speak five languages: Spanish, English, French, Hungarian and Romanian. I'm currently learning Italian and Portuguese.

I love languages, since I want to work as a translator, travelling round the world and helping people understand each other.

I define myself as someone very positive, kind and sociable. I always think about others, and I try to help them out. I love being with my friends, reading novels, writing my own novels, obviously poetry and learning new stuff.

Usually, people say I'm too young to write poetry. I have been told this for years.

I started writing my own short stories at the age of ten. Those small histories were not a big deal, but led me to start to write novels at the age of 12. I started my first book in 2021, and I finished it in 2023. Right now, my goal is finishing my third thriller novel, which I called "Pulse of panic". Finally, I recently finished another short novel, which is called "Wild Heart". And then I have a TON of crime novels haha.

My parents are not big supporters of my work. They believe my novels and poems are just a way of wasting my time.I've been struggling with many stuff and writing has always helped me out. I want to have an optimistic view, and say that everything will get better.

In 2023, at school, I began to write small verses on my notebooks, words that could rhyme and could express how I felt. Slowly, everything made sense, and I made my very first poem: Overthink. After that one, everything flowed good. I began to write more and more, when I felt happy or stressed. Poetry is my way of scaping reality.

I found Poetry Soup, and started posting my poems. Lots of wonderful people started reading my poems, commenting on them and saying such beautiful things, I had to keep going! They all inspired me, and encouraged me. I'lll cherish each of them in my heart. You all are the best!! I never thought my words could be appreciated the way they do. I'm really grateful.

I'm just a teenage girl, with so many dreams and hopes. I'll keep trying my best, trying to make good poems. I'll keep learning day by day.

Poems know before we do

Hi!

Today I had this strange thought in my mind. So I wanted to share it with you all, to know if I'm the only one who believes this, or not!

I was in class, half listening, half lost somewhere else, scribbling random words in the corner of my notebook. Senior year has me drowning in work, trying to keep my grades steady and my sanity intact. Too much stuff going on for a 16-year-old-girl, but hey, I'm still alive. So, anyway, while I was pretending to pay attention, I wrote something down and suddenly realized: sometimes the poem already knows what we’re feeling before we even do. Those words didn't make sense to me, at first. But then after reading them a couple of times, I understood it fully. And this has been happening to me for years!

It’s weird, but true. Let me explain this further. Sometimes the words arrive before the meaning. I write lines that don’t make sense at the time, and only later I get it — like the poem understood something about me that I hadn’t figured out yet. Maybe that’s what poetry is: a translator for emotions we don’t have words for yet. I think that’s why writing feels comforting. It listens before we do. It speaks what we’re scared to say out loud.

I’ve looked back at old poems and realized they were small warnings or quiet truths I didn’t want to face. Like I’d written my own future without meaning to. Have you ever done that? Written something that only made sense months later? It’s kind of eerie — like the poem was whispering a truth my conscious self wasn’t ready to hear. Poetry does that. It sees past the mask. It knows when we’re pretending to be fine.

And even when I try to hide behind metaphors, the truth still sneaks in somehow. No matter how careful I am, it finds its way out — disguised as an image, a line, a sound. That’s the power of it, I guess. Poetry doesn’t want perfection; it wants honesty. It doesn’t fix us, but it lets us breathe through the things we can’t say any other way.

The more I write, the more I think we don’t really write poems — they write us. They shape us quietly, line by line, until we start to understand the things we’ve been trying to ignore. Maybe that’s why we need poetry. Because in a world that keeps rushing forward, poems ask us to slow down, to feel, to listen to the parts of ourselves we usually silence.

So yeah, I think the poem always knows before we do. It just waits patiently, until we’re ready to understand.

Oh, no! I gratuated from ESO, which is mandatory highschool here in Spain in june 2024. Now I'm in the second year of the two years of Bachillerato, which is the two years in which you prepare for university. I'll gratuate in may 2026! I find your ideas very interesting. However, what you say is not the case with me at all. We probably are totally different types of poets. Cool for you to notice this about yourself. Whatever gets you to be what you need to be, authentically is the key.

Inspiration is an interesting phenomenon. Some say they get poems, songs, riffs in their dreams. John Denver wrote Annie's song (in his head?) while riding a ski lift. I had the phrase "event horizon" in my brain without having any idea where it would take me. It turned into an award winning poem. So who knows? We just go with the flow. Nice blog
