Welcome to my page!

I am a man of many interests - TOO many, I think, lol - and because of that I never gave writing the attention I should have when I was young. I started writing poetry in December of 2016, and joined Poetry Soup at the same time. I have a new book "Melancholy Moon" published by Wheelsong Books UK and I'm under contract for two more, the next (much darker) before Christmas. I am also currently working on an R&B/Soul album for a major label, so, as has usually been the case, poetry does not get the time I'd like to give it ...

I like to incorporate classic styles and phrasing into a modern frame when I write poetry, and try to cover a wide range of genres, but I enjoy the darkly sensual the most, despite its limited audience. I hope you'll give my rather unusual style a chance, read a piece-or-two, and leave a comment, if you'd be so kind. Thank you EVERYONE who entered the 'Dazzle of the Deep Field' Poetry Contest!! I wish more folks would've messaged me with questions, cuz there were only TWO poems out of forty that nailed the form correctly, and it's not as difficult as it may seem. The two catalectic lines at the end of each stanza threw people off, and they are just the same rhythm as the first three, (iambic: soft-hard, soft-hard, etc), but the very last HARD syllable is left off the end. Many entries got that wrong, some got the syllable count wrong, and about ten didn't even read the directions and were other forms completely. It would be nice if those weren't entered, because they fill spots that people who DO read the rules could be using, so PLEASE don't enter a contest if you have no intention of following the directions that the sponsor requires. Despite the difficulties with the form the CONTENT of your entries was just marvelous, and I was very impressed with the thoughtfulness, phrasing, metaphor, and depth of your poems - they were truly a joy to read, and I'm honored that you worked so hard on them, so thanks again!

Oh, thank you Susan, I’m so glad you enjoyed it - your poem was a beauty! The content of the others was also truly wonderful and they were all a joy to read! I may try this again sometime and give a more detailed explanation of the two catalectic lines, because it may have been my directions that threw people off. I had fun reading them just the same and I’m impressed by the efforts made. Yours was very musical and that’s really the key to this form. Congratulations!!
