Well, Ladies and Gentlemen, the deadline for this contest is here, and judging was
concluded after several re-reads by my judge at 16:40pm Greenwich Mean Time.
I have yet to read the entries, so I shall leave the summary to the Judge who, and this is a first
for her, has poeticized it.
Ode to the entrants of 'My abiding memory'
Your words hung there, resplendent
like wild fruit upon a tree,
ripe for picking- some were honeyed, some were tart
bitter sweet abiding memories for all the world to see-
different styles, diverse shapes, all touched the heart.
Some quite small, but said it all,
some more rounded, so profound,
some amorphous but full flavoured to the core,
some well hidden deep within
the outer layers of the skin-
to tempt the palate, leave the taste buds wanting more
some determined, some outspoken-
like the rebels of the bunch,
those more tender in reflection
still, they packed no less a punch.
What to pluck from this fine crop then?
Not a simple task to do,
a bounteous harvest.
But instructions just to reap a paltry few
so herewith my decision,
pieces chosen in no haste
but ones to me which seemed so fitting
and best satisfied my taste.
