Greetings and Salutations! - Xavier Keough's Blog

Although many of us know one another from our poetry, there is undoubtedly so much more to discover. Naturally, it's quite easy, if not inevitable, to draw conclusions based on our work. I write on a great number of subjects, ranging from the somber to the silly, and even on occasion, racy. I love creating a piece that invokes overwhelming emotion, so that it is engrained into the consciousness of the reader. To me, there is no higher compliment as a scribe. For some sick reason, I have a natural inclination to rhyming verse, which I think it is too often dismissed as tawdry and rudimentary. If one can create an insightful and compelling poem, while simultaneously extracting that auditory nectar, then in my opinion it reaches a pinnacle that no other format can touch. Of course, that's much easier said than done and I can't break my addiction to caffeine. On the flip side, I like to think I'm equally adept at utilizing differing styles. Without a doubt, this is where Poetry Soup has helped me expand my poetic acumen. I have learned more about Poetry here, than anywhere else in my life. Though I've never truly considered myself a poet...I've written short stories, one book, and 5 screenplays...I find myself increasingly drawn to its allure. And no, I don't use it on chicks. Alcohol works much better.  Relax, I'm joking...really. Literary gods throw lightning bolts too!

On a personal note, I'm an extremely down to earth individual who loves to laugh and  who incessantly strives to better himself; yet, regardless, who prides himself on being a decent and caring person. If any of my views or poems offend you, I apologize, for that is not my intention. However, just like you, if I deviated from my own thoughts and concerns, I would not remain true to who I really am. Therefore, it is in this light, I feel honored to be part of a forum that features so many wonderfully diverse and talented poets. I'm not a very critical reader...for I think poetry is to be enjoyed, not so much judged. As long as the writer conveys his/her feelings and is content with the outcome, what greater success is there? It's a pleasure to meet you all!
