I retired from a nursing career to live a simple life in the country and write. I self
published my first book of poetry, The River of Liquid Dreams. Small presses published two more, In The Presence of Shadows, and Faith Like A Dandelion. I had the honor of having one of my poems recited in a documentary produced by the Canadian Institute on Child Health, The Healing Journey. I give poetry readings and judge performance poetry competitions.

TO THE AMAZING PEOPLE AT POETRY SOUP

Blog Posted:7/27/2013 5:25:00 AM
Since I joined the soup a few months ago, many amazingly talented poets, and just simply wonderful people have befriended and encouraged me. I feel bad that I just vanished a few weeks ago, stopped reading poetry and commenting. Here is the reason why.

My son was rock climbing and fell over 30 feet. Doctors said it was a miracle he lived. (He actually regained consciousness in the med-flight helicopter and was lucid enough to complain that it was his first helicopter ride and he couldn't see out the windows!) After surgery to put in plates and screws to put his pelvis back together, and many, many other head to toe injuries treated, he is on the mend. It will be a long recovery, at least a year.

I know without a doubt that his guardian angels were there, catching him and slowing his descent. After I got the call, as I was driving through the night to get to him from my sister's house several hours away, I kept hearing a voice telling me, "Keep calm. I've got him." The next morning my sister called me at the hospital and said she saw our mom (who passed away a few years ago) and two other angels. She said Mom told her "You girls don't worry. Keep calm. I've got him. I've had him since the minute he fell."

The Lord is wonderful, amazing and so faithful! I lost one son years ago, but God has allowed me to keep this son. I am so very thankful, for myself and for his children.

I am also very glad to be able to read incredible poetry again, here at the Soup.

Hi Monterey, I wondered where you were, missed your comments. I am so sorry to hear of the reason why, but pleased that the outcome is good. Time heals, physically and mentally, with God's help all will be well.....Seren

Miracles do happen.......I'm so happy to hear that this story didn't end tragically...... Although knowing the long road ahead, it will be uplifting to know there are those to help in the journey along the way. Thank you for sharing. :)

Yes, miracles happen all the time. Sometimes they are big like this one, other times we could miss the everyday miracles if we are not paying attention

As a parent I know how you feel. Nothing hurts like grieving for the hurt of your child.

You're right. Faith is easy when life is easy, but it becomes a thing of rare beauty when we are tested and need to hold onto it.

I have learned through my life that God is always there and always good even when things go horribly wrong in this life.
