River of life

He worked dawn to dusk six days a week
He told his wife it was only going to be temporary
They would have lots of time together
 when his ship came in

His children grew from babies, to toddlers, to young adults
He missed all that but he would make up for it
 when his ship came in

His family took wonderful vacations together
 Always without Dad
He would be able to go with them
 when his ship came in

His wife became gravely ill but he barely noticed
 There were deadlines and promises
 but things would get better
 when his ship came in

Today he stands in the quiet cemetery
 surrounded by the children
and grandchildren that he hardly knows
As he gazes upon the final resting place
of his lovely wife he thinks to himself
I missed the boat.

Anything that is distracting to my writing is fading in importance. It ios a little scary sometimes, to be so focued onone thing.

Stop to smell the roses... I didn't until it was almost too late. I almost died before I started living. I was so busy struggling with my health and epilepsy and working to protect everyone else that my life was almost taken away. And my son hated me for not being there for him. I'm on disability and still struggling but finally living. And my son is beginning to understand. Love this poem. Now, I'm writting about silly Trolls and loving my family. Ahmen.

Excellent ending on this one. The whole poem brings to mind that old Harry Chapin song , Cat's in the cradle. WEll, have a fun Friday, Patricia!
