My First Short Story - Accepted for publication

I was so intrigued by Isaiah's last contest theme "Cowboys in the Badlands" that I ended up writing a short story about it rather than a poem. Cyndi critiqued it for me and I made some tweaks, then started looking for a publisher. Thanks, Cyndi!

Got published on my first try! It was so funny when I saw this Frontier Tales western stories site, as they use the painting from Isaiah's contest that I based the story on as their banner. Figured that might give me a better chance, and it did.

Hi Roy,

Congratulations! We're going to run Cowboys in the Badlands in the May 2015 issue of Frontier Tales, but we're not going to run it as a serial. We believe it will hold together better as a single story and the length, while a bit over our normal 5,000 word limit, is within reason.

By the way, I assume you noticed our banner incorporates an Eakins painting. You could say this story was a shoe-in! 

Keep writing, and keep submitting stories.

Awwwww, thank you, silly man, but the suggestions I made were teeny tiny. This is all your doing :D You have a real talent and should really pursue writing fiction, but don't abandon poetry. I've found that what we take from poetry, its uncommon use of language and attention to imagery, can refresh fiction. Poets have a "leg up" with drafting good prose. Again, I'm just so happy for you! Keep blazin' that trail! ;)
