Hello soupers and TPS if you are reading this, I know I have touched on this subject before, but why do the captcha code thingy's have to merge so what looks like two letter 'C's is actually an 'O' and a 'C' sometimes I have to do it two or three times (I know I am thick)...I do understand they are needed for security I just don't understand why they have to merge....David

David, have you seen the ones at yahoogroups? they are even worse than the ones at THIS place. It took me like eight tries just getting myself enrolled in a yahoo group one time because I simply could not figure out the letters. It's ridiculous. I feel sorry for folks with dyslexia!! but hmmm, maybe they are the only ones able to understand it!!!

if you click the icon ( two circling arrows) next to the captcha code it gives you a different code, whenever I get a "c" that might really be an "o" i just hit the icon to get a different code

David, this topic again lol. I hear ya buddy, captcha codes suck. After typing in the initial code when logging in(or timing-out), why should we have to enter a code for every single comment? There is the obvious concern of security, but really, a captcha script using a mix of of 4-6 letters and numbers, isn't a super defense anyway. Image recognition verification(anti-bot)codes are a rather unreliable, but popular way for a website to differentiate humans from machines. Most of them are solvable by Optical Character Recognition (OCR) Artificial Intelligence programs. There are a lot of programs out there that can easily figure out captcha scripts like the one used on PS. Any yodel out there can run accessible programs to beat a captcha code. You could download programs that bypass having to punch in the codes, if you want. The codes are verified and entered for you....

I too have a pet peeve of my own! I sometimes type in the correct captcha and get a message telling me it is incorrect and to try again. I enter the new one shown correctly without any doubt and again it tells me it's incorrect and to try again! This sometimes happens up to 4 or 5 times before it accepts it. Grrrrrr! Has anyone else experience this? Jack

Jack, I am sure most people have experienced this many times. The captcha image you're trying to gather is created dynamically by a script. Sometimes when a captcha program tries to gather the image from the cache, it ends up getting a newly generated image(mis-timed), and thus you send the wrong code to the CAPTCHA service, even if you are 100% certain that you typed in the proper captcha.
