Creative Haiku Contest Judged

This was truly one of the most difficult contests I've ever judged! I had some wonderful entries, though some had to be discarded because they weren't haiku to my mind, but very short free verse. I eventually arrived at fourteen winners, but choosing the exact order of placements was problematic, because I liked many of them equally; hence there are a lot of joint 4th place poems! I genuinely could not choose between them as I liked them all equally for different reasons, so in the end I decided to give them all 4th place! Really, the numbers beside the poems need to be disregarded, and the fourteen winning poems should just be viewed as fourteen beautiful snapshots, which is exactly what they are. Congrats to my fourteen winners and thanks to everybody who participated!

Charlotte, I read them all and you have some real gems in there. Thanks for including mine. I took your advice and rhymed. Glad to see Jan got a top win. Hers was really GREAT. BTW, Lucilla has passed away, PD has just told us. Did you know her? She was such a dear here, and I am feeling sad. I feel so useless, like what can I do in memory of that sweet lady?

that is sad news, andrea, no I didn't really know her, it's strange how we get to know some people well and not others, I suppose it's inevitable on a site of this size...btw, have you heard anything from frank h? such a shame he's left the site, I do miss him
