Poetry helps me vent feelings and fears that I can't vent in spoken words. also poetry is a way to praise Jesus and others that have been good to me in life. I also use poetry as a way to put memories down for history to see. thanks for asking.

I feel things and some of it I wish to share with those that understand. Some are veiled like an Arab Woman whose face behind the veil you can't see. These are the cases where my poems depict my personal hurt, my inner agony. Such writes serve as balm to my deep rooted wounds -they help me to live. -Mohammad

I write poetry because it makes me happy. I owe my inspiration to this amazing site and the wonderful poets and friends I have met here. With so much gratitude and lots of love, Shar

I write simply because I like telling stories. I'll occasionally add a moral to the stories, like the bards of old, but they're nothing new. Then again, what is new under the sun? I like writing in the abstract; it gives me a challenge to, quote, "make something out of nothing". It's the challenge of seeing how far I can go, thus finding new quotas to meet for the next time I write. It's a vicious cycle, really, except without the vicious.

Poetry is such a wonderful way to open up your heart..or sometimes it;s a Pandora's box of emotions, that you might not feel comfortable sharing in another way. It offers a channel for creating, which I love to do, but more importantly, I can speak in ways that perhaps I'm afraid would be deemed trivial, or insignificant in the outside world. Though we share our poetry with each other...it is a look at our inner side that we often hide in public. Somehow it's easier to write it down in poetry.

I write as an outlet for my creativity. I also enjoy using written word as a way to express my thoughts. Karen

Hi Mark, I write to express my feelings, sometimes anger, sometimes pride and mostly just for fun. I guess the main reason is the desire to touch human emotion. It lets us know we are still alive. God Bless. Vince

I write for myself. I'm not good at expressing myself to others, so I let my feelings out by writing them down. Some of what I write comes from talking with friends, Whom also have problems with self expression. Keeps me from bottling things up inside. David Bear Caldera

I write poetry because it is my favorite way to express myself. i'm pretty sure that's the most common reason.

I'm not a very good poet, but I write to get things off my mind. Mainly I write about things that are going on in my life, but on occasion.....things go kooky.

Maybe my poem, "I Write My Soul in Poetry" would be a helpful answer, but I'll give my own. I write, because writing is the air I breathe, the passion of my life. I write, because my mind shuts up for once, and in the stillness, I can hear the song of my soul. I write, because for once I am not invisible or unheard, but can share my heart with those who relate to me. I write, because my soul wants to reach out to others, through love, and bring them closer in understanding. -Sara

i write poetry as a way of expression that expresses my thoughts and feelings. sometimes i write because i get a rhythum in my head and the words just flow almost like lyrics to a melody.

I started writing as a 19 year old teenager searching to find myself, I've always admired 18 th century poets of all kinds. I write for pleasure, I write for release, I write because I think I have something to share. I write to learn and better my expressions. I write often because I love it truly! Laura Mckenzie :)

I, like Michael, began writing at a young age to escape my tragic childhood - to escape and to try to make sense of everything happening around me and to me. Then at about 13 yrs old, I began reading and indulging my emotions with other poets (shakespear, Tennyson, Cummings, Keats, and more) I found that it came quite easily for me, and that I wasn't too bad at it. I was the only one in my class who actually understood Shakespear, so that was cool. Now, I do it for me - this is what I do. :) K

I write for many reasons over many years. I mean, I wrote to escape my childhood when I wrote at 6 years old, because both parents were alcoholics. From there, it turned into an outlet for everything else, a way of expressing and escaping. Later on in life after being married and having kids, my poetry turned to love, pride and faith. All in all, I'd have to say that I right now, because I can and also because I enjoy it. ~ Michael

Well some people write poetry to get their point across in a beautiful, flowing way. As for me, I write because I like it, I'm good at it, and I can use it to express myself and clear my head when stuff's bugging me. It's mostly about passion and love for what we do!
