Greetings, felicitations, love and hugs to one and all. I landed on planet Earth in 1959 with a chilling scream at one end and no sense of responsibility at the other. Left junior school in 1970 with a certificate authorizing me to slay Dragons (written in crayon). Grammar school until 1976, all mortarboards, gowns and forbidden towers, way before Hogwarts,.Went into the printing industry for nine years, then I.T, when computers had flashy lights and punch tape. Currently a carer for a family member, my hobbies include drinking real ale, aviation, free-fall Morris dancing, unarmed basket weaving, tap dancing for social ridicule, some drawing and painting, learning to play the Pandemonium quietly and, more recently, a lot more poetry. My first effort was in 1966 and if I remember correctly, went 'Autumn's here again, the leaves are going brown, the days are getting shorter, the sun is going down'. One day I'll make progress. I've had a lot published in our local newspaper, and several read out on National Radio, which is very kind of them. Anyway, thanks to all for the welcome and, as Luke Skywalker said whilst visiting a seaside resort on the East coast of England, "Mablethorpe be with you". Viv

Greetings , one and all, hope you had a lovely Easter. We've just scraped the snow off the Easter bunny, and the local children who were on the egg hunt have been airlifted to safety by mountain rescue. I've applied some more sun cream to my scarf, so I'll be fine.

Anyway, the reason I post is that I've been in contact with a fellow souper who will be known to anyone on the Soup for more than eighteen months, a fine poet with a great sense of humour who has been out of the loop for a while. It appears he's been through the same purple patch many of us here have been through, namely that period of inactivity where your muse appears to have stuffed some clothes in an overnight bag and gone to live in a dumpster for a few months, I've been through it, I know of others who have, where you stare at a blank page/screen/slate (delete where applicable) but nothing happens. One source of rescue, however, is the contests, which can throw up something to spark your imagination. However, the sponsors can only submit one contest until their current one is filled or reached the deadline, so any other fine ideas get postponed for up to a month, leaving you with maybe a dozen current contests, some of which won't float your boat, and others you will have entered.

Which made me think.

We have subject categories for poem submissions we can check ( love, cats, flowers, new year, annoying bathroom habits, etc), would it be possible to have a 'Muse bucket' where anyone with an idea could post a variation on the theme, with a shelf life of maybe a week, so struggling wordsmiths might dip in and find inspiration?  Similar to a contest, but many people don't want to sponsor a contest and have a theme they want to share and exchange comments and thoughts on, as with collaborations. I occasionally come up with something I'd like to throw out to all interested parties, but have to wait until my contest window is open. I'm sure this has been mooted before, but I'll give it an airing anyway. Love, hugs, breathless longings in verdant glades etc.....

Viv x

I personally like the idea. My muse has been stuck in the mud for months. I do very few contests anymore. Occasionally a line or topic will materialize but nothing comes with it. I've often wanted a place to post it to see if it might inspire someone else's muse. Great idea, Viv.

OH GOD....VIV.....NOT ANOTHER "BUCKET LIST"......but seriously...hehehe..perhaps it could be done as a blog ... where "themes', "prompts', and "ideas", can be suggested and poems posted either on the blog(?) or submitted under a specific heading on the Soup.

Sounds like a good idea Viv. Maybe PS could add it under Poetry Resources on the left.

Viv on the subject of muse, when it leaves me I'll usually go back in time 5 or 6 years and pull out an old dusty poem and re-write it, sometimes it takes me 3or 4 poems to re-write before my muse seems to show up

A fine tactic, Frederic, I shall attempt that in another three years. Although I do scroll through my work even now after three years and wonder what I'd written about. I can tell you the names of my classmates from 1970, but can't remember what I ate this time last week :)

Definitely an interesting concept Viv! Other sites allow you to host more than one contest at a time so your idea seems possible. If I'm grasping it correctly lol.

I can see the soup site trying to avoid contest overload, Shadow, but a bit of flexibility would be good. Viv

I try and mail people I've not seen for a while and I think the person you refer to has a name that could be male or female:-) I'm lucky my muse doesn't misbehave too often and I can usually fire out a limerick or two at any time:-) Great idea about a 'muse bucket' I wonder if it could be a feature on the forum but with a specific link to it and that link is seen on 'soup social' :-) hope you had a great Easter and Celeste got some kitty treats too:-) hugs Jan xx

Thanks Jan, there are several who have gone ' off grid' recently, some answer, some don't, which is worrying. Hope your Easter was good, ours was sleety. Celeste has now added the bedroom window to her weather watch. Pointless having the heating on. She still gets treats, though x
