Barbara Brant Poem
The lost soldier
The smell of burning, the sound of a gun,
Exhausted,fearful my body’s all done,
To fight for my country seems a little surreal
But there is pride in my heart and that’s just how I feel
My comrades, my pals and also my teams
Let’s get through this day as tough as it seems
The battle commences it is bloody and quick
What’s that I now see , it must be a trick
Calm peaceful fields with no bodies to view
Just hundreds of flowers in a beautiful hue
I rise and walk in step along with my mates
Towards those distant welcoming gates
The only signs left are the people that weep
With their precious memories that only they will keep
