Get It Wrong, and You Are Wrong

Get it wrong and you are wrong.
See, religion serves you until you can’t have kids,
or the money is tight,
or our choices weren’t right and life went wrong,
but god knew best.
We just didn’t listen carefully enough.
That’s the reason life got tough.
“Trust in the creator; he has a plan.
In the hard times go to prayer.
Life’s trials are meant to test you,
bring you closer to your god-- he has wisdom to share.”

The only life advice I ever got was the apathetic promise that it would all turn out because we rely on something beyond ourselves.

The only comfort given to me was the promise that I would find real comfort in prayer.

The hard times come for a reason.
It will all work out for the better.
Tell that to the believer who had nothing but faith through all of his trials,
and almost through a horrible death.
What about the devalued, raped girl?
Will her faith hold her up once it is done judging her?
Apathy is not wisdom.
Wishful thinking is not a strategy to approach life’s challenges.
What’s freeing is to realize there isn’t one right path and the others are wrong.
There is no invisible road to find and follow.
It’s life, and it’s complicated.
It’s life, and it’s around us.
It’s life, and you just have to live it.
Don’t walk it. Live it.
I feel disembodied watching my faith unravel--
Simultaneously realizing there is no god and believing my own presence is god.
I am not wrong.
I am human.
