Raptors Chase
A broken wing
in death’s chicane
Where pigeons fall
unending pain

A blinded flock
to circle down
As fangs await
both wolves and hounds

While far above
a falcon stalks
Vision prescient
it never balks

A broken wing
once clipped in fear
the raptors chase
—with canids near

Premium Member Dark Rainstorm
The chaotic cadence of falling rain begins striking the pavement in evening's hours. Up on the roof I hear the steady gain of drops as sprinkling now becomes a shower. The last of daylight's doves have all been slain by a murder of crows in midnight flower. Pins of light in puddles are raptors' eyes that watch with growing fire the blackening skies. Odd lines 1-7: ten syllables Even lines 2-8: eleven syllables

Fierce Raptors
The
sun
was
shining,
when
the
raptors
flew
across
the
sky.
As
blue
as
water
in
the
carribean.
They
flap
and
squawk.
As
they
were
chasing
a
white
pigeon
to
a
mahogany
tree.
They
were
hungry
Like
a
wolf.
And
eager
to
grab
it.
In
certain
might.
Helplessly
it
stood
on
a
branch.
Before
the
tugging
and
tearing,
the
pigeon
got
a
chance
and
escaped....

Starling on an Electric Power Line
Lined up
they perch in spaced formation,
ready to take fright and scatter
should a roving hawk approach too near.

I don't know why
they seem insulated from the deadly current,
or why
they make such a reckless target
for the raptors.

A cat looks at them
from a city pavement.
I do know what it is thinking.

The differing spaces between the starlings
could be musical notations.

A language just for cats and hawks,
played loudly,
on a blank sheet of sky.

Notes: Steller’s sea eagle, one of the world’s largest raptors, with a wingspan of nearly three meters. There are no more than 5,000 of these magnificent birds worldwide and nearly half the population congregates on the sea ice in Hokkaido, Japan each winter.(britanicca.com)...

A path is worn
going no where
the perimeter
of a domain
enclosed by a fence.
The pride will not follow,
the wildebeest
too few to encircle
their young
shiver in a biting cold.
A Bengal tiger paces
before a closed door
awaiting
a cold lifeless prey
as broken winged raptors
long for the sky.
A cheetah
races the shadow
of its past.
The silver backed gorilla
thumps an empty chest.
The children leave
in yellow buses
believing the lie.
