What the Gardener May Only Suppose
On a summer's morn, waiting there,
Beneath the tint of yellow glare;
Lies the gardener's unending task,
Remove from soil each spear of grass.
To weed, in jest lay rest to weed,
Prepare for ground the birth of seed.
Turn the dirt and furrow the rows,
Then lean and loafe on hoe and stare
And marvel at the earth laid bare;
While all the while the weed it knows,
What the gardener may only suppose....

Premium Member Spring Gardening
Raking out the garden,
Straightening the stones,
Thinning the perennials,
Removing old dog bones.

Cutting off dead branches,
Clearing out the hedge,
Burning all the rubbish,
Straighten gardens edge.

The air is finally warmer.
Spring flowers raise their heads.
The Tulips and the Hyacinths first,
To look up from their beds.

Next the Daffodils break ground,
Soon to raise their sunny faces,
And I rush to prepare the ground,
Make ready all their places....
