Clothes Make the Woman
There was a young lady named Dela,
Who always dressed well for her feller.
What did Delaware?
I really don't care,
But I think she should have dressed weller....

Premium Member Dangerously Dramatic Damsels
Dangerously and dramatic, delightful diamond-clad damsels from Delaware
deviously dazzled dashing dapper dweebs from Des Moines.
Deliberate dallying drained the dullards of their discerning dendrites.
Deeming them deliriously and dubiously devoted....

Premium Member Tameless
Sunshine glistens in your dark raven hair
It causes your devotees to stop and stare
I think that you are oblivious and unaware
Your label should say please handle with care

You are a rare creature I must declare
Why can't you be tamed? Must I beware?
I want to touch and ride you across the Delaware
But I’m terrified of your penetrating glare

Creepy planters from Delaware town
Their heads all ugly, weird smile or frown.
I cannot believe how annoying they look.
As strange as anything in any horror book.

Oh, they are yours I say to the artist with a smile.
Pretending they are not hideously strange and vile.
The artist is not fooled; she is my great-Aunt Candy Keen.
I make them for people I despise she said, people who are mean....

Paeon To a Trenton Victory
Johann Rall and his Hessian men are defeated this harsh chilled day.
Washington routed these troops at a small Trenton town with surprise.
Crossing the raw Delaware Run, with war so lost as some would say,
he gives his land a victory now - such needful and sought for prize.
Hundreds of the bad German guards are then taken when full at ease.
Faces are red ashamed for sure when caught having pants down at knees....

2 Poems Written At Different Times But In the Same Place
Blue—
Like the color of his eyes and
Blue means nothing to me cuz it’s
Cold—
Like the feeling in your eyes
And the lakes we used to go swimming in
Late January on the Delaware

-

Flying over the ocean—
Greyest night
Watching the water churn, churn against the sky-fire burning bright.
Don’t cease your reaching towards the light.
It shines through gaps of the blackest night
Fire, burn, your way is right....

I Remember
The brown raging river flows fast
Along the southing flooded shores
Where once a younger I had passed
Those many long lost years of yore.
I am reminded of August
Of fifty-five: the great deluge
When the river was its deepest
And residents fled to refuge
From the continuous rising
Water. I remember houses
Afloat and animals clinging
To life with their frenzy faces.
I remember…just standing here
Gazing at this mighty Delaware....

Premium Member Blue Hen From Delaware
There was a hen from Delaware
Who purchased blue feathers to wear
She harboured a mania
To see Pennsylvania…
One state to another compare.

She heard there were Phillies at play
And diners where food was buffet
She found no utopia
Fell victim to phobia
Whenever she drank Chardonnay.

Premium Member Samanthas Jams and Jellies
Samantha made jams and jellies out of this, that and the other
She had been taught by the best, her marvelous mother.
You could probably make watermelon jelly said her big brother.
Compliments made her happy, she did not feel any smother.

Her jams and jellies were a hit at the county fair.
These delicacies are to die for said a woman named Claire.
She began to sell them as far as Hokenboken and Delaware.
Berry jam and pineapple jelly always put up in her lair....

Changes
The Dark Delaware on my left
The defunct canal on my right
And me in the middle of both.
I’m heading south on the towpath
Peddling my hybrid all the way.
As to where? I haven’t a clue
It doesn’t really matter where
Just as long as I’m still able to
Peddle along this special place.
I’ve biked here since I was a kid.
Two things have changed since that time:
Back then I had a three speed Schwinn
Today I have twenty-one speeds;
Back then I was young, today… old....
