Rio Grande
She shimmers in the sun,
she's onyx in eventide,
Rio Grande.
She can be waters of a
new horizon,
or a river of Death.
Swimming in desperation,
mothers, fathers,
wanting coveted freedom
for their children to live
in USA-
a divided nation,
for an education, a chance,
to be enfranchised.
Men, women, children
have drowned,
returned to God.
But their dreams
didn't perish in
this waterway.
They're living in
another family landing
on shore in uncertainty.
Where does humanity go,
when the Rio Grande flows-
into a fate unknown. ~
