When Poseidon Left

Written by: Suzanne Delaney

Out on this bird-less archipelago
all shades of blueness blend.
Where sky ends and sea begins
is indiscernible.

It was here, in a time
no longer imagined, that Poseidon
was said to have risen from the sea.

Mermaids with silver tresses sang
him into the green aisles of myth

No longer does his spirit command
 the Seven Seas.
The siren song still whispers it
 to the Four Winds.
“Someday he will rise again,”

to greet a godless Nemesis
 in a fish-less sea.
