Decades down to years
Years down to months
Months down to days
Days down to hours
Hours down to minutes
Minutes down to seconds
No matter what time it is or how long you've been alive
You know at least one person or family that is on a dive
When will this economy of ours hit a thrive
We are in the passenger seat of this car
No one behind the wheel because we are too scared to drive
Let’s close our eyes and count to five
Eyes opening...WATCH OUT!!!
Almost falling off a cliff but we barley survive
No matter how many close calls we encounter the car is forever moving
We look out the windows and see the world as we pass by
Are you the one who will stop and give your last dollar to a homeless guy
They say the limit is the sky
But when you’re poor with no food or money all you want to do is say bye
Sitting there watching the news all I can do is cry
Families being evicted from a place the call home
Because the bank is worried about their own issues and can't even give them a $5 loan
You’re on your high horse riding and parading through the land
While that family you just evicted is looking for a place to stand
This is called poverty meaning having little possession and money
Yet the world around us is laughing
Please fill me in on what's so funny
Can you hear them crying
They are on that corner you pass by on a daily basis
Asking you for help
As the struggle form day to day
I’m gonna be on my knees and pray
Hoping that the world will take the wheel of these peoples car
But that’s like wishing upon a star
They live in darkness through all the pain
And yet we have the nerve to complain
Trying to climb over this wall
No one is their to catch them when they fall
Is opening up your hearts such a long hall
Why don’t you be their white little dove
Or are you to busy trying on that new pair of gloves
All I got to say is where is the love?

if it's not the hypnosis that get's you
it's the things they do while under
a suggestion of an act the audience doesn't realise
would you go crazy for three days to save the world
and on display is why
men giving birth to pretend babies
people playing instruments that aren't even there
getting drunk on water
being murdered with fake plastic knives
The things some adults do you call adult hypnosis
is seriously enough to prove my case
fighting fire with fire
the stage is set
the actors hired
to take their power back from something
The hypnotist gives a suggestion
down on your knees to pray
the hypnotist gives another suggestion
another one on his knees with a soulbound prayer
the hypnotist hypnotised by his own act
of the excuse of surrender your power
accept this bribe
and reasons why you should go crazy
to save your world from the proof on display
the proof on display a suggestion you can't help but take seriously
there it is right in front of you
witnessing the devil bribing you for you to have an automatic success
when you don't have your own answers
when you are ready to succumb to another man's power
to change who you are
the world was given an alphabet
the letters made into words
your mind your friend and protector
i don't have all the answers for you
no one does, except for the only person you can truly trust
you
relapse into drugs
out comes the pen and paper
to figure myself out
the steps i need to take to take my power back
from a chemical shackling me in addiction's chains
doing this my way with some support
i can free myself from the psychological excuse
of being worthless weak and powerless
to make the same mistake
I know me better than anyone
and you know yourself just as well
the truth will set you free
go to town with honesty
and write yourself out of the psychological sleep of the world's hypnotist
153 Street Station is clean
Down sturdy metal steps through
old Yankee Stadium field
where Ruth and Gehrig ran.
Pungent in the nostrils piss follows me
Up the hill where supers sweep trash
from yesterday’s deals and conferences
Broom bucket hose black bags.
Mothers pull young children to school
Their Diego Rivera faces
Chisled by want from old world stone
Set in the new world promise.
Adamantine trek no stopping
Climbing past the fortress courthouse
Crowded Social Service building # 145 (meth clinic)
Halal vendors hawking pastries
A lady with a cell to her ear in the lime green tracksuit shouts:
“What the **** is he to me?
If I can do what he do why do I need him to do what he do?”
Two young Black men in braids, swaying gold,
Pants down low wide-striding in step as they go,
“ Nigga says I got to stand a long time in that line. Whose line?
That’s his line not my line.
I ain’t standin’ in no long line”.
“Word”.
Crossing to the bodega on Morris Ave
where mi amor Juana takes my dollar twenty five
for the Schweppes Lemon-Lime
brushing by the bacon-egg-and-cheese-kids
pigeons pecking dirt
Up three flights to room 322 where
Students ask for pencils
while they tinker with the hardware on the windows.
Little Al came out to play
With triolet and roundelay.
Boisterous John with resounding whoop,
Skipped along with stick and hoop.
That night when John lay down to sleep,
He fell into a slumber deep,
While Al lay restless in his bed,
Sorting the poems filling his head.
John laughed at Al for listless way,
But which one had more fun that day,
John with his roundabout at play,
Or little Al with roundelay?
Each child was made in different mold;
One quiet and the other bold.
John ran to make his body strong.
Al longed to give the world a song.
Brave John will grow so big and tall,
He may be one to save us all
From danger should it come our way,
His future forecast by his play.
As Little Al composed, he knew
This world will need some beauty too.
Next day Mom took John's hoop away
Gave it to Al to run and play.
She put John on the stoop to stay,
Until he wrote a roundelay.
She said "When you grow up you'll find,
You need your muscles and your mind.
You must both share in work and play
With roundabout and roundelay."

Something New To Do
All the world
was a stage while
black crude emptied
into the ocean blue,
everyone tuned in and
offered their two cents on
how to contain this
oil spout that spewed.
What if no one pointed
fingers at each other,
no blaming the
oil conglomerate,
the President of the U.S.,
or the oil rig crew.
What if we just all put
our brain power and resources
together to answer
this environmental riddle
instead of watching cartoons
or going to the zoo.
Once we put two and two
together and came up with an
answer, what if we let
the world as a whole take
the credit for pulling our
efforts together and rising
to the occasion to
save our wild life family,
the one’s in the ocean blue.
What if we started
to wean ourselves off
of the need for this black crude
and got in the mood to walk to work
or ride the tube?
Wouldn’t that be something new?
I stand here filled with things to share,
'Cuz years have passed, now I'm aware,
That time was never spent in vain
With wisdom acquired and knowledge gained.
I've learned a lot, or so I thought,
Here, near and far, and from those who taught.
At home where I have said my rhymes,
At school where facts were memorized.
In places I have been I've learned,
Different cultures and gods, yet the world still turned.
In fields I've tried how grains are planted,
In cities discovered how machines are started.
I've met a lot, friends I have found,
Played music, toyed with all kinds of sounds,
And with each note sung, with each encounter,
I learned from it, I tried to remember.
And as I stand here I know know my life's not wasted,
Not ignorance, but each lesson tasted.
Education gained from the world I explored,
Success! Because with knowledge, I soared!
