Freely

There are over a million things
To do in the name of pleasure.
Over a million more that involves
Company.
The person I could be,
The person I’d love to be,
Over a million things that could go wrong.
This thought a wave pattern found
In an ocean of sheets,
The shore of the mattress bare.
The meeting of my fingers interlocked
With yours,
The earth rotates & bends sideways.
Without hesitation we are poured
Up down left & right,
Over a million things that could go wrong.
Lost at sea in complete darkness
I cling to you to keep warm.
Lost in the earth, you blush morning.
Shedding light to infinity.
Your face a cathedral of a million things
That could go right.
Smushed & paused in excitement.
Finally.
A religion that doesn’t require
A curriculum.
The earth rotates & bends,
I am baptized in the liquid from
Your lips & like a fish I am alive,
& like a fish I can breathe without fear
That you’d be stolen & renamed
Without fear that you’d be stolen & renamed.
Robbed of over a million things
That could go right,
Between the sheets we hide.
I cling to you to keep warm, lost in the earth
You blush morning.
Shedding light to infinity.
Finally.
A religion that doesn’t require
A curriculum.
The person I could be,
The person I’d love to be,
Without fear.
I wander you freely

Mother

A banyan tree that shields from tropical summer sun
A symbol of selfless love and sacrifice
A preserver of values that modernism has shun
No praise is enough, no gratitude suffice

Her love for her children is like blossom of springs
An angel she appears, a fairy she seems
It’s a symphony for ears, the lullaby she sings
The lullaby that drifts you in the valley of dreams

A teacher, a guide, a philosopher, a friend
An architect, a builder of beauty and grace
A garden of roses that fragrance send
Serenity of a lake where ducklings race

She suckles her babies with white blood of breasts
The hearts yearn for her bosom’s paradise
She strains every nerve, sacrifices her rests
Burning midnight oil with sleepy eyes

The special mothers that God has blessed
Maryam, Khadija, Fatema and Asiya
Women par excellence, mothers at best
Whether in Africa, Asia or the West

Mothers are an oasis in the desert of life
Their love and passion isn’t for display
Chained to the oar in your perils and strife
A shower of rain on a hot summer day
                           ***
(Dedicated to my mother Begum Najmunnesa, who left me alone in this world at the age of twelve and all the mothers whatever caste, creed, colour, religion and nationality they are. I salute them all)

I Will Be Your Chobe Enclave Roadway If You Could Be My Kazungula Bridge

Your song graze me all way deep to my depth’s deep,
Breathing closely, closer into my blues like a clever wheeze,
I feel it deeper in to mine soul like a callow breeze,
Caressing my heart in every part, O! Please…

Will you be my Kazungula bridge!?
Will you be there for me when I need you!?
When I need to feel you to the inner deepness like Mambo’s reggae strings
That bits to my inner deepness to dispute my choice of religion.

Will you be my Seboba water rapids?
To hold me well held in devious holders undreamt of,
To contain me well contained in the deeper reach of God’s carving
To serve me well served in reserved serving
Will you be my Kazungula bridge?

Will you turn off the radio to listen to my vapid talk?
Will you walk with me around the block?
Until we fade through constant time into eternal horizons of ceaseless loving,
Will you be my dream and my reality?
Will you be my Kazungula bridge?

(p.t 2)

And I will lead you through night's deep
to the creeping of the morning sun,
that bring together the lost stars of an ancient dream
I will love you the better way 'I promise!'

Like a Chobe enclave roadway I will aide you well,
Through the thick shades of the still alive saplings
of the Basekgoma's asserted terrain,
I will walk with you under the rain,
I will walk with you a long walk through pleasure and pain.

I will carry you well carted in arms long;
to the starry-eyed thuds of a Boro old gong,
Where love be seen bleeding from eyes through verses long,
like deep streams during abandant falls!
For as long__
I will carry you in my arms long.

I will carry you well carried
Across the long drive of your silent craving,
to slay your thirst in the open waters of the Linyanti swamps
I'll be your Chobe enclave roadway, if you'd be my Kazungulla bridge!

Her Name Starts With M

Who are you
Determined, fun loving, beautiful
You are strong willed
and I can never bear to see you give up
I have one thing to say to life
YOU SUCK!
I apologize but it boils under my skin
to witness a woman who has done everything she could
to survive and protect the ones she loves
be stabbed in the heart by betrayal
from a heartless twisted sergeant of evil forces
taking the name of her husband
steal her heart from chest
create a little locket as gift
to give to someone else and call it his
I got news for him too
'YOU CAN JUMP IN A SEA FULL OF SHARKS'
A godly person she has become
or has always been
it's something I can respect
it's something I can stand behind
but the Christian faith still puzzles me
I guess that's one thing I've never had
for they say God will never throw anything at you
that you can't take and coop with
yet he's thrown so many stones at her glass house
still I must admit I have rarely seen her smile fade
even if it fades, she can borrow mine
I smile enough for ten suns whenever I see her
like a five year old boy
smiles and stares at his first girl friend
just a tad cute but a bit embarrassing
I could go on and on with flattering compliments
but she has already heard most flow from my tongue
so here I say words of encouragement
words I have never said
so she will never give up
so when it hits Sunday
she'll have everything to gain and nothing to lose
'I believe in you
I trust in you
I have the faith in you like you have faith in religion
to always pull through
You've been through so much
and you've came out alive everytime
I could always say hold your head up to the clouds
whisper a prayer for prosperity
whisper a prayer for protection
but I've been beaten to the punch
Not a pun for I know all the punches you've taken
taken to the heart
and I know how painstakingly painful it is
but I also know a handful of people who will help repair it
For you have two handfuls of people who love and care for you
and like I said to you today
when I was slightly drowsy and ever foolish
You have always been there for me
so I am always here for you'
Will she take these words to heart
I can only hope so
but she has faith and a strong will
She'll survive and come out alive
I trust in her like she trusts in God
so in that regard I'll say a quick prayer for her
so she'll make it through alright
