My First Date Poets Dozen

my fourteenth summer. .
the son of a preacher man
showing me heaven

His teasing ways and his boyish grin.
How easily I was taken in!

I felt like a woman in my cute short culottes and wearing pink frost lipstick
that he’d kissed off my mouth before the night was through.

My best friend, with her guy, was in the front seat of the car.
My date, her older cousin, was my first sweet honey bee.
We made out in the back seat, but he never got too far.
I was raised to value my virginity.
But my youthful heart was wishing we could kiss eternally!

Strawberry Kiss

The tip of her nose
studded with blackheads like seeds
on a strawberry,

she stared back at me;
I could feel her move closer.
She asked, should we kiss?

Panting, I just gazed.
Her breasts touched my own. I closed
my eyes and breathed no.

What People Were and What People Are

People were
Many things.
Strange or not

People were
Different and
Odd and fun.

People were
Monsters but…
That’s not all

People were
And still are
Strange and odd.

People are
People. For
life is life.

Yet not.
Not is lies.
Truth seeps from

Every mouth
Lies, lies, lies
Move, move, move

But somehow
Lies prevail.
Lies are life.

Lies are death.
Lies are homes.
Lies are pain.

Lies are truth.
Yet somehow.
Truth prevails.

Truth is life.
Truth is death.
Truth is home.

Truth is pain.
Truth is lie.
Truth is that.

Lies will die.
Lies will cease.

Truth will live.
Truth will be.

Poets Dozen Ordered

Nervously gazing
Across the table he stared
Watching my silence

My hunger ceasing, As a Poet's Dozen ordered
Sipping a glass of wine, Becoming much more forward

Now served our dinner, Filling our mouths blind with food
Emotions much less suppressed, As its body crepted upon our nerves

 Us Two
To which was bliss
Liquid courage approved
Twisted our tongues without a Kiss

First Date

Ball of butterflies;
knots of anticipation,
tickling me within.

Pick-up at 7;
ready to go around 8.
patiently he waits.

Off to the movies;
holding hands, clumsy and shy,
ever so awkward

Horror flick on screen;
sharing popcorn and candy,
snuggled in close.

Walking home slowly;
lean in;first kiss at the door,
foot popping galore.
