The Tree's Up-

The tree's up, though not looking very prim
its needles all shriveling and dying,
so this Christmas is feeling kinda grim.

The cat destroyed the decorative trim,
she says she didn’t, but I know she’s lying,
the tree's up, though not looking very prim.

The kid’s socks make the house smell like a gym,
the cat fouled the gifts and my wife's crying,
so this Christmas is feeling kinda grim.

Cat got the turkey so pickings are slim
she just lays around hacking and sighing,
the tree's up, though not looking very prim.

Wild winter winds are only a prelim
to a blinding blizzard with snow flying,
so this Christmas is feeling kinda grim.

I got up to check the lights on a whim,
and found a cat chewed cord was near frying,
the tree's up, though not looking very prim,
so this Christmas is feeling kinda grim.

Chasing the Cat

Simply softly these guileful feet do trot
Those cavalier whisper my name in glee
Hiding I pray from dear loves noble lot

My attire a smirk, though my voice distraught
I'll squirm far away, yet they be carefree
Simply softly these guileful feet do trot

A fervor shared though I am not caught
Innocuous yet gentle I agree
Hiding I pray from dear loves noble lot

Conceivably hidden in such a spot
Amenity relaxation could be
Simply softly these guileful feet do trot

Quickly to safety overhead I plot
Why does all the attention land on me?
Hiding I pray from dear loves noble lot

Perhaps one day I'll play whilst being sought
But as a cat I may just disagree
Simply softly these guileful feet do trot
Hiding I pray from dear loves noble lot

Not only the cat

When curiosity consumes the mind
and thoughts are captured in a moment’s glance,
to trade control for instinct unrefined

is wandering through feeling’s forest, blind
to where it leads. I never can advance
when curiosity consumes the mind

for in that journey, part is left behind -
the part that knows the perils of romance!
To trade control for instinct unrefined

allows the truth to find me intertwined
among the waves of some forgotten dance
when curiosity consumes the mind.

In bending so, this life becomes confined,
and purposeful transforms into mere chance;
to trade control for instinct unrefined,

forget they are within myself combined,
will blur the right, the negative enhance:
when curiosity consumes the mind,
to trade control for instinct unrefined.
