how familiar that tune –
the enchanting night
your warm embrace –
now i remember
claire de lune

piano - four hands
fur elise you’ve never heard
such cross-overs
our hands would touch
and we’d laugh

my love with child
not my own
yet some eternal source within
said, “i forgive”
transfigured night *

walking one night
i heard the same dirty sax
i hated
when she walked out on me
at club sleezy

fiddling unafraid
on fifth avenue for experience
the whores pickpockets walking by
taking a bite
of the big apple

at the steinway grand
cocktail music
for love or misery
or both

one hundred
on stage at the philharmonic
the audience
rich and poor alike
fused as one by ravel

Like a Bee in a Bottle

Every resonance that seems to bring into life It makes one's being a likely confounded mind yet leavens its fleshliness
03/25/16 Note: * "Like a bee in a bottle" is an idiomatic expression of resonance *Thus, this poem has something to do with the law of resonance 4th placer in a contest (April 23, 2016)

Blues Tanka contest

Notes tickle the ear
Sorrow's song so sweetly sung
Faintly I'm aware
Somber, melodic embrace
Melancholy fills the air

My Love Song In Tankas

just in few moments as the dusk obscures the sky lids cover my eyes my mind begins to reckon the things I’ve done the whole day a flurry it was missing the sun in your eyes my heart in regrets didn’t sing you song last night or gave you right back sweet hugs now I sing my song but ice cream melts on its cone what else will I do to win back the love from you and make me smile and heart grows plead down so deeply asking you not to leave me I am so sorry this is the best melody be sung in my poetry I hope you can hear song being played in G-Clef lonely but lovely Tanka Song with love I sing hoping to ease all our pains

Howlin' Wolf

inhales in shadows
takes inspiration from gloom
moonlight penetrates
creates an old fashion song
simply called singing the blues

An Old Tune

an old tune
floats through my mind
hoping for a space
between Gershwin and Bach
but the valet parks it in pop

Ethereal Songs

heaven's choirs rise
  jeweled clouds eclipsed in songs
     lifting spirits up
hope dances round sun and moon
            as I witness angels sing

sweet song is over
i love that sweet tune so much
and now it’s over
why can’t beautiful songs last?
why are they over so soon?

Chained Dog Song

Jack Russell sings sharp—
two barks for each passing bike
he would love to chase.
Droning wheels tease and roll on
from chained dog’s staccato song.

SEPTEMBER SONG - triple tanka

Like a lover's sigh
She tiptoes forth looking back -
Those warm memories -
Birds still singing cross over
And sad sunshine stills the wind

Now September sings
A sympathetic tune silvers
Promises late gold -
The change will be gradual -
Promises sleep painless sleep

Mysterious calm
Like a magic caesura
Bated by surprise
In mind it's ever the same
Such gentle looking forward

HAPPY HAPPY TIME - double tanka

Happy happy time
Early tears and sleep lifted
Once past Labor Day
Harlequin in falll colors
Trips so lightly o'er the world

Echoes sad voices
From the past are silenced
By the happy clown
Bacchus come down pours the wine
The whole world on color dines

VIOLIN - multiform

VIOLIN - multiform

the old cedar chest
cracks with a dry musty blast
an edison bulb
in the gloom brings back the past
old news and dad’s violin

scratchy violin
alexander’s ragtime band
old 78

now the house lights dim
quiet anticipation
walking on – perlman!

Music to my Ears

sweetness in your voice
all the lovely words you speak
music to my ears

Starry Notes

 crescent moon refrains
 fade into night's melody,
 lyrics tinged with gold
 twinkle with each starry note,
a song clings to Luna's glow

Music please

Play a song for me
My heart longs to be set free
Held captive so long
I am trying to be strong
Is the instrument all wrong?

Sing To Me, Nightingale

Sing Nightingale, sing
Snap me out of my dream now
Chirp to me of love
Sing your songs, sweet Nightingale
Bleed my ears red with delight

Laughter--Not Always Music to the Ears

			Loud, frequent laughter,
			when it's at others' expense,
			earns the amused ones
			negative attention. Each
			ends up laughing all alone.

The young paraders
keep time with the fast band,
I keep time with rhythm
counting strong beats in music
with a mini metronome.
