Old and Lonely

through venetian blinds
slanting beams of light peep in
where she sits alone
reminiscing in silence
hoping that the bell would ring

Now You've Left (Beyond Bereft)

For Jared Pickett's Trois Par Huit.....Tanka.....Rondel Contest:

It is fall
and now I’ve tasted gall -
prefaced by a final kiss from you.

The moon, huge ball above that shines a golden hue,
seems a sign auspicious - but oh, that is not true!
Trenchant words you spilled; my heart is cleft.

I’ve wept (beyond bereft)
now you’ve left.

Dear, can’t you recall
how we’d thought our love would grow?
Your touch would enthrall
me through long days; moon’s warm glow -
Where did summer’s solstice go?

How will I ever find the wherewithal
to hold on through each coming lonely night?
My heart is hollow now, but holds no light,
and autumn’s sky too soon will cast its pall.

Abounding love and sun are gone. How small
will be the days to come. How much less bright!
How will I ever find the wherewithal
to hold on through each coming lonely night?

In fragrant blush of June, to garden wall
I’d run, your sunflower smile in my sight.
How can I stop my mind from taking flight -
so lost in thought of when we had it all;
how will I ever find the wherewithal?

This lonely little hovel

the grainy half dusk
when the sun gives her last wink
hours spent in thought
to leave the safe sanctity
this lonely little hovel

loneliness is forgotten

Blazing Heat

The blazing sun
     scorches lonely daydreams—
He saunters like a penguin
    lemonades in hand.
We two laughed until moonlight.

Lonely Traveler

Lonely traveler
Searched for light in dark of night
Toes, like gavels, pound
ice covered asphalt. Poignant
cry echoes behind closed doors…

Inside, warm bodies
nibble cake and sip hot tea
as sojourner seeks
a smidgen of sympathy.
Lights on, but its dark inside…

Early Season Moth

Early season moth

Born before it’s really Spring

Flying all alone

But time still to feel the sun

If only for one moment

i am feeling blue
oh so lonely and depressed
like a long sad song
then as if by some magic
crimson flash you’ll come along

sitting ‘cross the room
at this starbuck coffee shop
and looking so fine
how you’ll gaze my way and smile
a love arrow valentine

it’s love at first sight
my throbbing soul won’t deny
be still cautious heart
i will have you for my own
hear you say we’ll never part

The Forlorn

You desert me too
Who in this unkind world of
 Self-seekers cares to
Hold the shaking hands of
A tormented, forlorn soul

One Lonely Tree

It weathered harsh storms

and grew to be very strong

but the day soon came

when life was taken from it

so that Another would die

In the midst of this downpour
Thought I was getting used to
Be forayed in this crusade
Till that warmth touches my soul

Making the most of
A summer day in the park
Frolicking couples
And then there's a lone poet
Taking his thoughts for a walk

lonely soul naked

                                              lonely soul naked
i stand at the end of earth
                                          eyes see the brown sky
                                    raining dead pale yellowed birds
on the dead sea salt frozen

The Lonely Ace of Hearts

Dedication to my first and last love, Lance Ewens, 1979-2006

She's remembering
The day that she fell for him
It was in Autumn
When she first transfixed her eyes
Upon the most gorgeous face
That she'd ever seen
He smiled at her with a charm
That glistened so bright
It melted her heart like snow
They became friends instantly
Their friendship would grow
And thus, blossom into love
They spent every day
With each other mirthfully
Until that last fateful night
A bitter, rough wind
Stole her one true love away
Her heart always breaks
When she holds the ace of hearts
It remains a painful token
Of the love that she once had

Upon Thy Lonely Planet

Tonight snow flakes fall
With thy beautiful blue
In the crescent moon
Thou shalt see me in
white hat
Upon thy lonely planet.

My Lonely Heart Sighs

Late at night I reach

For someone who is not there.

Then I remember.....

And then my lonely heart sighs

`He will not be back' it says.

Lonely Night

Set my room aglow
Bereft of desired warmth
To chase the Harmattan cold

Piercing the thoughts of the lost
Painful incision
