The Maid of Orleans

Reflecting in her garden sits a winsome little maid;
She holds a purple flower like the circlet that she made
And wrapped about her braids to grace her forehead like a crown;
Her thick and shining braids that are the shade of chestnut brown.
A soft and dreamy smile lifts her lips of cherry rose
As she so elegantly lifts the flower to her nose
To smell the rich and heady fragrance rising from its soul-
Upon this day in early May, her heart with joy is full.
But look! The heavens open wide, and joy is changed to fear,
For Michael the Archangel in the garden does appear,
And with him stand Saint Margaret and Saint Catharine, sent to seek
This girl of twelve, and in her frightened youthful ears to speak
Words form the Lord, of how someday, somehow, she'll have to save
Her native land, her land of France, from lying in the grave.
When in their bright angelic garb these saints to heav'n returned,
She knew they had been sent from God, her heart within her burned
With strong desire, with heaven's fire, to do her Father's will;
Her heart beats hard, while all around is silent, calm and still.

The years pass by, now seventeen, her hour is fully come,
And what is now but distant fancy, dull and throbbing hum
Will be her life, her joy, her pain; her darkness or her light:
For God and country, king and freedom, must, she must needs fight.
The chains of England must be broken, young prince Charles crowned:
A source of hope, of inspiration must for France be found;
For civil war rakes raging claws through weary, hopeless men,
Who fight and die, and sacrifice, and lose their homes again;
Their gardens, flocks and herds, and treasures, all are swept away:
With nothing left but life itself, and naught to do but pray.

God heard their prayer and sent her there for their deliverance,
To lead them on to victory through every circumstance
Of treachery or deviltry that loomed on every side.
Urged on by all the saints above and martyrs who had died,
She bound her armor to her body, helmet to her head;
A troop of eager soldiers to the Orleans siege she led.
Without a fear she faced the battle, banner held up high;
It filled each fainting heart with spirit, waving in the sky:
Unfailing, never falling, always standing at the fore,
And filling every weary soul with courage to the core.
Though wounded by an arrow striking close beside her heart,
She still pressed on to victory, she played her vital part.
The Maid of Orleans did her best, she held back not at all,
But risked her life at every turn to heed her heav'nly call;
She fought and bled and braved the beast until her king was crowned,
And even then she carried on, she traveled all around:
Each city gained broke off the chains of power-hungry kings,
Who killed to gain another's land, his citizens and things.

Alas! She met her fate at hands that should have helped her cause;
The countrymen she battled sold her to be judged by laws
And men that all disfavored her, yet still she firmly stood,
Proud head held high, two gleaming eyes; she answered best she could
Each twisted question meant to trap her clear but simple mind:
With wit and art she answered each; they really could not find
A cause for death, but death must be for such an enemy
The fate; who sees such visions full of vile heresy,
Of saints and angels revelating mortals with God's plan.
They also charged her with the sin of dressing like a man,
But it was of necessity she donned a soldier's guise;
For all throughout the war-torn realm roamed pairs of hateful eyes
Who did not heed a woman's cries, but did what pleased them best:
They killed or maimed or stained for life from eastern France to west.

So thus it is, not twenty years, they chain her to a stake-
The final chain that no amount of bravery can break.
Within her dress, hugged to her chest, she tucks a wooden cross;
The symbol of the Son of God, who faced such early loss
Of life, and like her was betrayed and mocked and led to die
Without a cause, without a crime, without a reason why.
Ten thousand people press around; she feels the burning heat,
As flames grow hotter, ever hotter- licking at her feet:
But on one thing and one thing only both her eyes are fixed;
Upon the figure held before her- on the crucifix.
And she is thinking of a time that seems so long ago,
When as a girl she used to sit and watch her garden grow;
She'd pick the purple petaled flowers, braid them in her hair;
Her life was simple, pure, and sweet, she hadn't any care
Until Saint Michael gave her calling to her way back then.
But if she had another life, she'd do it all again,
For God and country, king and freedom she could die this death;
And so it was that thus she died, and with her final breath
Her soul and body parted ways, and while her body burned,
Her soul went on to realms unknown, her soul to heav'n returned
Into the hands of He who made her, to the arms of Christ the Lord;
Who made for her a better body, more than just restored.
Here ends the troubles of this maiden, gone are jail cells dark:
Forever live the Maid of Orleans, known as Joan of Arc.

SMILE AT A MUSLIM

These are just a few words about reality,
as Muslims struggle each day with individuality.

What is a Muslim and from whence does he come?
Like you and me, he is born into the world. because of two someone's.

Many of us grew up knowing prejudice in life,
I was gangly, naive, ever given to strife.

Raised as a Christian I never knew what it meant,
As my Muslim friend, how people could vent.

My younger years were spent playing baseball you see,
They were a team of Puerto Ricans, not one Muslim to be.

My Polish heritage was always the butt of a joke,
It was infinitely small, compared to a Muslim's yoke.

My parent's generation was prejudiced in mind,
To Blacks, and Jews, Hindus, Muslims, Hispanics and people of all kind.

I, being naive, never even recognized the strife,
to which these peoples had been subjected to in life.

From experience I learned to treat each person individually,
slowly finding out that that was how they treated me.

Oh, I can say I've met both good and bad,
and the underlying theme is all so sad.

For it seems that we put labels to people like cans of beans,
stick them on a shelf, never tasting their means.

But once you open that can and taste the fare,
you may very well find yourself going back there.

We have our share of detractors in this world of our choice,
but Muslims are not the ones against whom we should give voice.

They are as decent, hard working, and loving as you or me.
They only want what is best for their family.

I pray to my Christian God for Muslims though they know it not,
because they are people that He has not forgot.

Words between man and God are private you see,
that is what connects man to his Deity.

But in every society there is always some remark made aloud,
about how this group or that group has no right to be allowed.

What, I wonder, gives them the right to speak that thought?
Unless it was the freedoms for which this country fought.

And I am sure that the Muslims fought with us too,
so they could have an American dream or two.

So, I think I'll stay in my own naive little way,
and keep those prejudices well at bay.

I won't care whether the next person is Red or Yellow, Black or White,
I won't care if he's Hindu or Christian, Jewish or Zen on sight.

Yes, I'll like the next Muslim I see,
I'm going to smile at them, and I bet they smile back at me!

These Days

Met with you the first time, knowing not what I had just found.
Working days and nights beside you, walking unit’s hard ground.
Helping one another in and out of these day’s crisis.
Trust in easy comfort sharing secrets and our vices.
Blinded by your selfless nature under our same God’s eyes.
Colored hues of virtue burned into your soul it rides
Times enduring twelves in truth and depth of pasts and yet-tos.
Corners turning heads to tails in trails you doing time thru.
I have watched you suffer dating burden from his cold hand,
Wanting many times to tell you to break from that dead man.
Wisdom needing to remind me, hope was holding you still.
Losing grip, you make the change and years returning, Love will.
My prayers carry wishes for you, one day’s given good spouse.
Under Holy Ghost’s soft guidance, making your home, God’s house.
Sharing smiles and tears in keeping promise past the last day.
Into Christ’s embrace that shines you through a Heaven’s gateway.
Always just a thought away you will be after our end.
Grateful in my heart to have been given such a rare friend.

Love Thy Brothers

There are two laws that precede any others:
Love first thy God, and then love thy brothers.
But when we see another engaged in some wrong,
do we offer forgiveness or join with the throng
casting their stones, as their hatred they spew
claiming God’s judgment to back what they do.
“It says in the bible, don’t do this, don’t do that…”
Does anyone wonder why the message falls flat?

We go to our churches, and sing songs of praise
but then when we leave we embrace sinful ways.
We claim to know Jesus, we’ve felt of his love
but rather than spread that, we push and we shove.
Yet forcing our morals on others is flawed
do we really think that will bring them to God?

We seem to forget, life is meant to be hard,
that all of us struggle, and in that regard
we are no better than any known sinner,
if we must cleanse a vessel, can we make it the inner?
When others are doing some act we despise,
trust God with the judgment and silence the cries.
Let’s open our hearts, look again at God’s child
struggling through life, and by others reviled.

Let us offer a haven, our friendship, and care
let us strengthen the weary, give hope to despair.
For loving thy brother, comes not with condition
and failing to do so is guilt by omission.
For there are two laws that precede any others:
Love first thy God, and then love thy brothers.

Inspired By In A Perfect World by Diane Christian

Once you do prefect,
It will then become perfect;
Part of perfection.

It must require a certain selection
Of things that appertain to perfection
If perfect is what we want to obtain
God will make us able to stand the strain.

What I have heard from latest scoop
Jesus won't want us to jump through hoop
Or constantly in circles walking around
He waits for us wanting to be found.

There may be many obstacles involved
But with God's help they will be dissolved
While in our prayers He is close and near
Ask and all of your sins will soon disappear.

Faith, hope and love together can alleviate
All sin and hopelessness so full of hate
God high in heaven will be walking there
To share with us His world beyond compare.

No Longer Christian

A call to arms for those who believe
A reason for the nation to grieve
Leadership to continue the rot
Trying to destroy what we were taught
No longer Christian is what he decrees
Treating the Christian as if a disease
If this is the man we choose to elect
Then for this government I lose all respect
Married to a woman whose views are fascist
Her own Princeton thesis shows her as racist
We do need change but not that kind
Where In God we Trust will be hard to find
Once his changes, he does enact
No longer Christian will become fact.

Remember that statement “No longer Christian" when you vote in November.

MINDFUL OF SOLAR ECLIPSE

MINDFUL OF SOLAR ECLIPSE
He’s coming with his dark glasses
and dizzying smile
He’s stopping by for a minute or two
a minuet of manic joy
He covers the sun with his steady hand
she tingles with trepidation
Will she be blotted out from his employ
she wipes off sweat as he passes by
Merely a warning of end times
dark days of deepened sin
We watch with amusement
arm in arm on love boats
Standing in main line parks
finding the perfect spot
Would we find the perfect standing of our heart
a bond with the patient perfect God
When the cross covered the earth in darkness
men of old took note
When the stone rolled away from the sun
the eclipse was eradicated
Emblematic pain or joy of your soul
gaze up with future foretold

The Dusty Trail

A glacier like a cowboy sat
Upon the foothills. And just like that
The climate changed from hope
To glad. And just like that a bar of soap
Was drawn from the rhinestone-clad holster.
With pink and orange stones it did stir
The emotions pride and reverence
But didn’t make sense
With its raven claw and bunny paw.
That type of injustice should be against the law.

To bathe with soap upon the skin
With water warm and a glass of gin,
Made cold with glacial ice, those are nice
Experiences to have. And then to roll the dice
Into the saloon and pollute the soul
With games of chance. Such a toll
Does pleasure take upon the Puritan
[for those believers, anyway]. A ban
Would ameliorate, if self-imposed.
Unfeeling cowboys are never so disposed.

She's Blowing In The Wind

My alegence is pledged to one who blows in the wind We are blessed to be in the Republic for which it stands

One nation, under God always, as our flag blows in the wind I have this treasured piece, folded and neatly tucked away

I must keep it secure, assuring that it never goes astray Since I have owned it, never has it seen the light of day

Perhaps someday, I shall set it free to blow in the wind I'd love to see it flap its wings, but I don't know when

This prized possession of mine has thirteen stripes Seven stripes are clothed in the hardiness of red

Six of the stripes are beautifully arrayed in purity white I must secure a flag pole and watch it blow in the wind

I am the grateful and the proud holder of my 48 state flag May God wrap us all in the blue color of vigilance, perseverance, and justice.

Shall We Try For One More Year

How many years now has it been – maybe fifty-seven? We’ve traveled down some pleasant roads, on our way to Heaven. We’ve looked into each other’s eyes – seen both joy and despair. We’ve wondered how we’d make it when resources were not there. In looking back to find just how this love of ours began I believe it is controlled by some divine master plan. I believe if God does not exist there’d be no you and me. And all this time together would be less than destiny. I know that my redeemer lives – God’s word tells me so – He sent you as a soul mate as through this life I go. He knew there would be obstacles; I know He put some there To determine if we’d solve them with the mighty gift of prayer. I believe the lesson we have learned in traveling down life’s road Is to bring our troubles to Him to lighten up the load. We realize that we’ve been blessed sharing time together here Still one decision faces us --- Shall we try for one more year? Written for my wife on the occasion of our 57th…12/21/12 … Let’s go again Darlin’…. John Posey

I Love You Jesus

~I Love You Jesus~ (Couplets) Just when I thought, I was alone and so lost, You came to live inside my heart, and paid for me the greatest cost, Of all, and since then You never left my side no matter what I have done, Or what in my life I've chosen to do.In my soul you shine like the sun You're the most wonderful thing that happened to me.You make me whole, Without You to guide me I would be now in an empty darkened hole, Without You by my side, this life would be so worthless and very mean, Without You, my world would be so cruel and empty and so coldly grim. I know that there's nobody like Him in the whole world, you see He touches my heart and my soul, everyday, in every conceivable way, He's made everything for me so completely brand-new, you see, His sweet love fills the emptiness of my sinful soul, He sets me free. His love is the greatest therapeutic healer that every man should know, And without His Love and Grace there wouldn't be, any love left to show. Road to Over

Unwrapping both a blessing and a curse, extracts
Love’s essence painting souls and framing them abstracts.

Too brazen into Jung’s collective we were when,
Our fists were punching holes up through the floors of Heaven.

We knew the fools from those among the wise who cherish,
But that denying harlot Fate, had to be selfish.

Now under burden of this heavy and cruel loss,
Pain’s pressing pitch to blacken the abandoned cross.

Among the broken pieces that will fall this way.
The mausoleums that will be cap stoned today.

In paper coffins lay the letters of their last,
To reconcile this day, or others from the past.

Possessions that become departing gifts to friends.
A rotting, cold corpse they will be, when passed again.

Those stalking zombies out of reach and courting hate
Caressing defense of an unforgiving state.

Must they forget the lover’s pages bled in ink.
Escape in substance high, and falling drunk in drink.

As desperation quickly fills their beds with drones.
The futile chains attempts, when weakness is alone.

To look again to see the gift from ending’s split.
A testimony of a truth embracing it.

For what this life has taken, in return, it gave.
Event Horizons welcome us beyond the grave.

Some morsels kept out of the ruins of our dreams.
A loving Christ’s hands will to heal and stitching seams.

His wisdom and his patience walking me still slower.
His ways are guiding me, in these, the years to over.

Skill and talent

Is skill and talent that sacred
As to earn me daily bread
Pleasurable and luxurious things
As a place before kings
And unending sentiment
Of transcending compliment

Is skill and talent so sacred
That its treachery I must dread
In tarnishing a name
Or plaguing a fame
Of an indelible ethic
In the day of a youth so epic

Is skill and talent this sacred
To require utmost discipline with which to tread
The extremities of chastisement and admiration
With composure and temperament in retention
In honor of God who endows
With these wonder that continues to raise brows

Afterlife

When I've taken my last breath,
and my eyes are closed in death,
it will not be the end of me,
for in Heaven with my Lord I'll be.

I will be perfect and complete,
and I'll bow at Jesus feet,
worshiping my Savior King,
because He is my everything.

Gently He will take my hand,
and lead me through His promised land.
With loved ones dear I will meet,
and I will dance on golden streets!

Not because that I've been good,
or have done all the things I should,
but only 'cause Jesus died for me.
On the cross Christ paid sin's penalty.

By His blood my sins were washed away,
so with Him forever I could stay.
He died for you as well as me,
if only you would just believe.

Unknown

Who am I?
Am I defined by what is near in sight?
Am I defined by what I have done,
Or am I defined by what I could become?

Perhaps I'm of no use.
To him, or her, or I, nor you.
Or perhaps I'm too misunderstood to be defined,
And it is something like understanding that comes in time.

And if to the world I'm never shown,
Yet in my own light I've grown and grown,
And so I can know no happiness but my own--
The reason for my smile, to you, will forever be unknown.

I do not pray for the world to know my name.
For it and verse; the letters are the same.
And if a man should find his sorrow in what he reads,
I pray his pain my words to keep.

Should his eyes rain on my page,
Better tears than storms of rage.
And if a man should find his sorrow in what he reads.
I pray his pain my words to keep.

And if to the world you're never shown,
Yet in your own light you've grown and grown,
And so you know no happiness but your own.
Let the reason for your smile, to you, only be known.

If you will read and study God's holy Word divine.

Prayer for those who live alone

Prayer for those who live alone

I live alone, dear Lord, please stay by my side,
All my needs please be my guide

Grant me good health, for that I pray
To carry on my work each day

Keep pure my mind, thoughts and deeds
Help me be kind, to meet others’ needs

Save me from harm and malicious tongues,
From pain and fear and evil ones

When I am sick, in need of care
Lord, I pray, that You be near

When I am low or in despair.
Lift up my heart and hear my prayer

I live alone, dear Lord, I have no fear,
Because I know, that You are near.

Amen

WHY ARE WE HERE

(A Purpose So Clear)

Like children we fear
  In secret a somber tear

Like learning to walk
 Babies listen to talk

And reach for a hand
  To help them stand

This too, we all must do
  By HIS Hand made anew
