While We Wait
Listen to poem:
while i’m safe at home
i can choose to tune out
the onslaught of extermination
behind my locked door
i can shut out
the screams of loved ones dying
while i’m in here
i can forget
the atrocities of a new reality
at least for now
i can feel safe
keep the monsters at arm’s length
here i can forget
that life as we knew it
will never be the same
this too shall pass of course
not in my lifetime anyway
i’ll be long gone
but till then
i have it in me to step up
and make a difference
